Games Workshop is going over the fine details of the upcoming Rogal Dorn Battle Tank – A tank a Primarch can be proud of!

The Rogal Dorn is the new Battle Tank thundering to the tabletop in the upcoming Astra Militarum Codex. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the model and it’s impressive kit.

Size-wise we know the Rogal Dorn sits inbetween the Leman Russ and the Baneblade. It fills that role well with the sheer amount of firepower it can pump out each round.

“It was important that the Rogal Dorn fit in with the rest of the Astra Militarum tanks, so there are elements from the other vehicles reflected in the design. It has a similar profile and tension springs to the Leman Russ, there are mudchutes similar to those on the Chimera, and armour skirts like the Baneblade, so even though it’s a new silhouette it looks at home with its peers.”

There’s a few things that make this tank special from a modeling perspective as well. First up, it’s more rounded than some of the other tank kits. That was a design choice to “imply a mix of cast metal and riveted armour plates” which is a more realistic look. This tank also features a “proper suspension” for a tank which means you can leave the side skirts off and you can see the full wheels for the tracks.

Another fun detail of this kit will be all the extra stowage options available. Gas cans, ammo crates, and various bags and tools really show how this tank is used. These bits are also cross-compatible with the new Sentinel kit so have fun mixing and matching to characterize your Rogal Dorn tanks.

“It’s the same for things like the smoke launchers, search lights, and sensors. They can fit onto a number of hardpoints on the turret and sponsons, and they’re also compatible with the hard points on the Sentinel.”

That’s a nice touch and it makes sense as all the parts are Imperial anyhow. This could present some fun modeling opportunities later. And speaking of fun modeling opportunities:

“There’s a lot of flexibility with how you place things, so some of the vision slits are optional. If you leave the fuel tanks off the back, there’ll be a crew hatch instead!”

The tank’s crew are also a bit more generic in style. They aren’t 100% Cadian Shock Troopers but rather something that could easily be its own thing or slide in to any Astra Militarum regiment.

Cadians or not? You get to decide.

There’s a lot of little details in this kit, too. For example there’s spent casings you can add under or near the heavy stubber the gunner is using. The fold-down step is also optional, too. You can really customize this tank for your needs and narrative style.

The Rogal Dorn is rolling to war on a tabletop near you very soon!
