Adult Swim is Bringing Back ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ and Carl

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is coming back to Adult Swim for an all-new season. A real one on TV this time!

For the uninitiated: the extremely surreal series focuses on three fast food-shaped roommates – Meatwad, Frylock, and Master Shake – and their adventures. They also constantly annoy their neighbor Carl with their shenanigans. It’s weird and makes no sense most of the time. The early aughts were like that, though. People wore ultra-low-rise jeans, trucker hats, and velour jogging suits to formal occasions. Don’t ask. Aqua something, you know, whatever…

The Space Ghost Coast to Coast spin-off premiered in 2000 and aired for over eleven seasons on Adult Swim. The show is one of the elder statesmen of the existing line-up – only Robot Chicken has been around longer. Aquateen Hunger Force went through rebranding before calling it quits with “The Greatest Story Ever Told” in 2015. There’s also an ATHF movie and a short series called Aquadonk Side Pieces.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Returns

Adult Swim has renewed Aqua Teen Hunger Force for a five-episode 12th season with original creators Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro. It’s been eight years since season eleven aired. The pair released a statement about being back.

“We are thrilled to be making more Aqua Teen Hunger Force episodes for a new generation of fans, building upon the most impressive collection of IP ever assembled. Success is optimal and leads to quality.”

No dates or details have been announced for the new season. You won’t have to wait long for new ATHF streaming content, though.

Their next movie – Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Plantasm – drops on HBOMax on February 8th.

The trio plus Carl fight fight “everyone’s favorite corporate overlord, Amazin, led by everyone’s favorite tech mogul, Neil (voiced by everyone’s favorite Peter Serafinowicz), and his trusty scientist sidekick, Elmer (Paul Walter Hauser, who is everyone’s favorite).”

Willis and Maiellaro had a note for “fans” that didn’t buy it in 4k back in November…

Congratulations! You waited just long enough for Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm to be free on the service your parents pay for. I can’t wait for you to discover the project everyone has been talking about, and by everyone, I mean our personal Twitter accounts. There is too much stuff to watch already. Breathe, and focus exclusively on Aqua Teen. Delete everything else.”
