DBZ Kakarot is releasing on next-gen consoles soon and with it comes new DLC. The latest trailer gives a hint of what is to come.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an adaptation of the main Dragon Ball Z story. From the Saiyan Saga to the Buu Saga, the game was developed by CyberConnect 2 and published by Bandai Namco and it’s just one of the best DBZ games out there when it comes to presentation. DBZ Kakarot was originally released back in 2020 for PS4 and Xbox One, and it was eventually released for Nintendo Switch in 2021.

The game had the DLC in the first season pass released in the form of loose adaptations of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F. Beerus was an optional boss, and Freeza (or Frieza in the English dub) returned with his Golden Freeza form. Super Saiyan God & Super Saiyan Blue transformations were made for Goku and Vegeta to use. The game also got a small card game called Card Warriors, which was randomly built into the game for free.

But the last DLC was a great adaptation of the DBZ TV special History of Trunks. This time, you play a young Trunks growing up in the darkest timeline where Goku died of a heart virus and the rest of the group was killed by Androids 17 and 18. It incorporated some of the plot points mentioned in Dragon Ball Super that involved Trunks dealing with the Buu Saga in his time. It made for a satisfying end to what we thought was the last DLC for the game.

Last year, Bandai Namco surprised Dragon Ball fans with an announcement that DBZ Kakarot was not only coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S but that it was also getting a new season pass with 3 new story additions. Here is what we know so far about the newest DLC and what’s to come next.

Bardock – Alone Against Fate

The first DLC that we know for sure is happening was announced alongside the newest season pass for DBZ Kakarot.

Bardock: Alone Against Fate is an adaptation of the fan-favorite TV special Bardock: Father of Goku. In the special, Goku’s father Bardock gains psychic powers after his team encounters the last survivor of the planet Kanassa. He discovers that Planet Vegeta is destined to be destroyed, along with most of his race.

The DLC promises to let you experience controlling Bardock and his team, the wiping out of Kanassa, the fate of Bardock’s team, and his desperate battle alone against Freeza for the future of both his planet and his son. The recently released trailer teases some incredible cutscenes, giving us an idea of what some of the most important parts of the story will look like.

Imagine Bardock’s famous blood bandana and facing off against a small army alone in space! The end of the trailer teased the next DLC with a very familiar silhouette to original Dragon Ball fans.

The 23rd World’s Martial Arts Tournament

The DLC trailer ends with the silhouette of 18-year-old Goku in the outfit he wears when he first appeared to sign up for the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai after training with Kami. This moment marks the beginning of the final arc of the original series with Goku determined to win the tournament after losing. The tournament goes off the rails after it’s revealed Piccolo Jr, the reincarnation of King Piccolo, who has come to kill Goku since he is the only thing standing between him and world domination.

This reveal is very surprising since every single DLC pack so far has been something that had the Dragon Ball Z name on it. Original Dragon Ball is referenced directly through interactions with past characters not in Dragon Ball Z, outside of the Spirit Bomb scene, throughout the game like Eighter, Upa, and Emperor Pilaf.

Before this reveal, I would have guessed the next DLC would have been something like Episode of Bardock, or the TV special Son Goku and His Friends Return. I would have believed one of the movies, or even out of left field, The Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans.  As a huge fan of the original, this is really exciting since the battle with Piccolo Jr. is one of the best fights in all of Dragon Ball. It has some of the most memorable hits in the series – and DBZ Kakarot loves recreating memorable moments.

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on Jan 13th, 2023 along with the first new DLC Bardock – Alone Against Fate coming to all platforms the game is currently on.

Dragon Ball has so much story to tap into that the last story DLC pack could be any number of things. I can’t wait to find out what it is. Let us know in the comments what you think of the current DLC and hope the last DLC pack will cover it.

I will change the future! -Bardock
