Goatboy’s Grimdark Armylist – World Eaters Invocatus & Friends

Goatboy here with some World Eater armylist thoughts. I’m starting off with Lord Invocatus and some of his bloodthirsty friends.

It is a very simple book to build for and with the new Arks of Omen detachments we can quickly build something utilizing the powerful units in the book – aka the Eightbound.  Luckily  both styles of army in the codex both like to utilize these units to create a nice synergy between how you would want to build them.  Really the question is do you want Angron or do you not want Angron?

While the army is pretty one dimensional I do think the power the book will have is how you use movement to get what you need done.  This means either utilizing Invocatus to pregame move things or just utilize his +2 to movement options to get things closer.  Testing will have to happen, as again Angron is really good too but will see what ends up in the end.  It is all skulls for Khorne and we are just the tools to go get them.

World Eater Building Blocks

Let’s Build a basic set up for the army – or at the very least how I might play it.  Its all the Eightbound options as I think these are going to be the glue to get this machine to the end.  The 2 6 man squads are the ones that will shoot forward with Invocatus’s ability while the other can be in reserve as needed.

-HQ-
Lord Invocatus – 160pts
-Elites-
Eightbound X 6 – 240pts
Eightbound X 6 – 240pts
Eightbound X 5 – 200pts
Exalted Eighbound X 3 – 135pts
Exalted Eighbound X 3 – 135pts

PTS: 1110

This gives you a pretty good base and you can go into both directions for the army if you want.  Of course I just ask which friendly ally will do the best for you.  We have a few options to think about. Again the big question is Angron or not.  From there it is dependent on which army you go into – the Red Angels army or the regular World Eaters.  Let’s talk about the Regular World Eaters options that we could do.

World Eaters First

First we would add in the normal 3 FA Chaos Spawn Options.

-FA-
Chaos Spawn – 25pts
Chaos Spawn – 25pts
Chaos Spawn – 25pts

From there we could look at some Troop choices too as Berzerkers have an interesting slot in this list.  I do like the idea of trying to utilize the “surge” move a bit with 10 man squads.  It gets hard to really justify as again they are just foot troops – but with so many other foot options rushing at you it could be helpful to have some moving, advance, and maybe surging into an opponent.  Plus again they are all CORE which can be helpful.  This also leads me into thinking about whether to take Kharn or not but we’ll think about that later.

Dreadblades Gets Us Some Shooting

This gets us to 1565 points and utilizing the ELITEs option in Arks of Omen.  Of course this is a decent amount of bodies on the table top so the next question comes in do we look at some kind of shooting option or do we just ally in some bullets.  I really like the idea of Dreadblades from Chaos Knights as they don’t mess with the armies rules and give us some much needed firepower.  On top of that they could also give us some CP depending on the basic missions we take if we want.  The choice on them is dependent if we want some kind of close combat attack back or just go with pure shooting options.

I feel the shooting options are better so that leaves us with Brigands or Executioners.  Both have their place and with a specific Dread Household trait we could be set up for a powerful damage output option.  Worthy Offerings giving you a +1 to hit versus MC and Vehicles is very powerful.  Getting your stubbers to be super powered too seems fun too as you can easily chain out some damage, ignore LOS, and maybe spike some Blood Tithe Points.  Heck you could even go crazy with some exploding 6’s or just decide to be a Dreadblade Herpetex option too.  All of these things seem good and dependent on your playstyle.

PTS: 1997 CP: 5

Next time, will look at a Red Angel army using some Daemon Allies to help shore things up.  Lucky for us, there is a good shooting choice in Daemons but with Power Level being an issue it might just be doggies and their leader to help save the day.
