We don’t see enough pets in Star Wars and I want to see more. This week, let’s take a look at some of the best pets from around the galaxy.

We don’t see enough pets in Star Wars. Some people have pets, of course, but we spend so little time focusing on stories about normal folks going through the grind on the city planet they call home with their four space cats. And frankly, I want to see more space cats. This week, let’s take a look at some of the best pets from around the galaxy and why we want to pet them.

Vornskr

These are tragically no longer canon but in Legends Talon Karrde had a pair of them as pets. Vornskr are wolf-like creatures that are native to Myrkr and have a natural force sensitivity. They’re so good at using the Force to hunt, that their favorite food source, the Ysalamir, developed a natural force surprising ability. They probably aren’t great pets for most, but Karrde discovered that snipping their tail-whips reduced a bunch of their aggression and was able to keep them as guard dogs. This wouldn’t be the first time, they were also used as Dark Force Temple guards on Dromund Kass.

Loth Cats

These galactic kitties are canon. So much show that they’ve shown up in comics, animation, live action, and you can even see one in Galaxy’s Edge if you’re paying a little attention. They’re solitary animals who like to hunt for small rodents in the grassy plains of Lothal and have a healthy weariness of most larger creatures. But once domesticated, they make great hunting buddies or even just house pets. In fact, if you’re removing a Loth Cat from its natural habitat of Lothal, it may be best to make sure it’s a strictly-indoor Loth-Cat. They’ll probably wreak havoc on your planet’s native bird and rodent species.

The Rancor

Yes, I consider the Rancor a pet. The Rancor guard in Jabba’s palace certainly did. And there is an entire episode of The Bad Batch where they spend time with Muchi, the baby Rancor who turns out to be surprisingly adorable and friendly. This is one of those difficult pets who will probably only like its person and will respond favorably to few others. But to that one person, the Rancor may be the best pet in the entire galaxy.

Massiff

Massiffs answer the question, ‘what if dogs were reptiles?’ They’re a species found on desert planets like Tatooine and Geonosis. They’re known for being pretty dangerous hunters. But they have also been domesticated for sentry and guard duty. And as you can see, they are also very good boys look at them yes they are. We see a bunch of them in The Clone Wars. But more recently, Massiffs can be seen with the Tusken Raiders, acting almost exactly like you’d expect a dog to.

Kowakian Monkey Lizard

Monkey Lizards are exactly the sort of pet you’d expect Hondo to have. They’re intelligent, troublesome, and capable of mimicking almost any language. Suffice it to say, this is not a pet for a novice exotic pet owner. Instead, Monkey Lizards are usually owned by pirates, bounty hunters, and other members of the galactic underworld.

Which of the galaxy’s pets would you like to have? What’s your favorite earth animal and is there a Star Wars equivalent? Do you have any pets and can we see a picture? Let us know in the comments!
