The latest tank to join the Imperium is the Rogal Dorn but it’s future lies in the Imperium’s past.

There’s a bit of a issue with the Rogal Dorn. You could say the bottom fell out with that tank. But what if there’s a way to fix that issue and also predict the future of the tank at the same time?

Curious? Well let’s illuminate the situation and see if our prognosticators are accurate this time with a few predictions about the future of the Rogal Dorn Tank. We’re going to do that by looking at the past of Games Workshop.

Time Is A Flat Circle?

I was taught that space-time was curved but this might take it to a whole new level. Anyhow, we need to talk about the releases of the past to see how GW could improve the future of the Rogal Dorn. The first fix is they need to ship a bottom for this tank.

That’s not an incomplete build by the way — there’s just no bottom for this tank. In order for GW to fix that they just need to have another sprue. Or they need to ship a new boxed version of the kit with that new sprue included. And maybe that sprue could have some additional weapon options and upgrades. Does that sound familiar?

Games Workshop did this already with the Imperial Knight kit. The top canopy might not of had a giant hole in it, but they re-released the Knight with a new sprue full of additional options and repackaged it in a more “final form” sort of box. The first iteration was fine. But the updated version added a bunch of additional flair and fit seamlessly with the existing kit.

So what options and weapons would they add? Funny thing about that — they already have that answer in the past, too.

Allow me to re-introduce you to the Macharius Heavy Tank. This former tank available from Forge World had a unique spot in the Imperial Arsenal. It was larger than the Leman Russ but smaller than a Baneblade. It filled that gap quite nicely. Does that sound familiar?

For a really long time the Macharius was this strange “pocket super heavy” that was produced by Forge World. Until it wasn’t. The Rogal Dorn basically replaced that tank. But you know what else is missing from the line-up? The different variants.

Macharius Vanquisher – Anti-Tank Version

The Vanquisher was just “more of the same” with a turret that had a pair of twin Vanquisher Cannons. However, the concept of a dedicated anti-tank version of the Rogal Dorn could be produced. They could have a new, fancy battle cannon or they could do Lascannon upgrades. The concept is there.

Macharius Vulcan – Anti-Infantry Version

The Vulcan had that insane turret with more RPM than you could shake a stick at. This variant was the designated anti-infantry version and it could cause a serious case of lead poisoning.

Macharius Omega – Plasma Turret Version

Safety be damned — this tank brought the BOOM one way or another. Plasma might not be the most popular option for a lot of reasons but it does look unique and distinct to Warhammer 40,000. So you know that a Rogal Dorn is coming with a Plasma slinging turret.

Additional Variants?

GW could go nuts here. They could go with a single-shot Turbo Laser Destroyer option. Or maybe one with a Demolisher Cannon. Or…well, you get the idea. It’s an Imperial Tank. Load up all the options and get creative.

Between the hole in the bottom, the additional weapon options, and the fact that GW has precedents for all these additions/variants this is not the last time we’ve heard from the Rogal Dorn Tank.

Place your bets — how long until we get a Rogal Dorn upgrade kit that addresses these issues?
