Goatboy here talking about how to build a new Space Marine army that can stay valid for 10th Edition.

This means looking at some of the boxed sets you might be able to find based on the costs you see online.  From there, we can see what can be put together and maybe – it could actually be valid!

The Space Marines we’ll go with will probably be Iron Hands as their boxed sets have Dreadnoughts which are fun to paint and play with.  I have high hopes that Dreadnoughts end up being good, and I bet things like Heavy Intercessors might work out well too.  Plus – there are a lot of options I can use for some battleboxes based on what I can look around.  I also bet we will see some more Space Marine ones coming out, too as well as the new little boxed set that just came out a few weeks ago.

First Thing – Grab the March of Iron Strike Force

Let’s start with the March of Iron Strike Force, which looks to run you about $210 shipped to you from what I can see.  It might end up being higher but it gives you the following things.

Iron Father Feirros – 130pts
Primaris Tech Marine – 70pts
Redemptor Dreadnought – 185pts
Redemptor Dreadnought – 185pts
10 Intercessors – 180pts

Pts: 750pts

Next Add a Dark Angels Combat Patrol

As I want another Dreadnought this means looking towards the Dark Angels Combat Patrol boxed set that runs you about $140 shipped as I looked around.  It gives you another Dreadnought, a Chaplain on foot, Jump Inceptors, and 5 more Primaris Intercessors.

Chaplain on foot – 75pts
Redemptor Dreadnought – 185pts
5 Intercessors – 90pts
3 Inceptors with Plasma – 180pts

PTs: 530pts

Finally, The Agastus Boxed Set

This leaves you 720pts to fill up with goodies as needed.  We have a lot more room to work with. So while we fill up our Detachment we could use some things to help – shore things up.  I think the new Strike Force Agastus Army Boxed set would easily fill out the rest of the army by giving us another cool dreadnought, the awesome Desolation Marines, another troop squad in heavy Intercessors, and finally a Lt. for the army to use.  It looks like the cost is a flat $170.00 so add in the tax should get us around $185.00.  It gives you this:

Primary’s Lt – 65pts
Heavy Intercessor Squad X 5 – 115pts
Brutalis Dreadnought – 200pts
Desolation Squad X 5 – 185pts
Desolation Squad X 5 – 185pts

Putting the Space Marines Army Together

This does make us hit over 2000pts. But again as a thought process on how I would build an army this isn’t a bad way to get it all figured out.  Plus – with things like Relics and Warlord traits coming, you might want to dump one of the boxes to just get some utility characters or wait to see whatever new boxes come out.

Total cost would be around $535-550 for the whole lot of things.  You get 4 Dreadnoughts, a decent amount of bodies,  some HQ choices, and a few little surgical Knives as needed.  It isn’t the best but it looks like it would let you be able to play the game – and everything is relatively new kits – perfect for 10th Edition.

Iron Father Feirros – 130pts
Primaris Tech Marine – 70pts
Chaplain on foot – 75pts
Primary’s Lt – 65pts
Redemptor Dreadnought – 185pts
Redemptor Dreadnought – 185pts
Redemptor Dreadnought – 185pts
Brutalis Dreadnought – 200pts
Heavy Intercessor Squad X 5 – 115pts
5 Intercessors – 90pts
10 Intercessors – 180ptS
3 Inceptors with Plasma – 180pts
Desolation Squad X 5 – 185pts
Desolation Squad X 5 – 185pts

Pts: 2020 (in 9th Edition)

We will have to wait and see how the points shake out when we get the new 10th Edition rules. But overall, this is a fairly safe bet that will keep you painting, should have high utility, and is all available in bundle boxes to save you that cold hard cash.

Happy gaming out there, my Brothers!
