Paizo announced the Pathfinder 2E Remaster Project, an updated set of four new hardcover rulebooks for all you Pathfinders out there.

Just yesterday, Paizo announced the Pathfinder 2E Remaster Project. If other remasters are anything to go by, the Pathfinder 2E Remaster will presumably add HD textures and DLC characters to the game, making it look more like something that can run on a PS5.

Although, if that ends up being true, it should be called a “demaster” because Pathfinder already runs on the most powerful graphics engine in the known universe: the imagination. Seriously though, this is an ambitious project that offers a fresh coat of paint on the 2nd Edition core rulebooks, resulting in a four-book set.

What does a “remaster” mean, in this context? Well, they’ve taken into account “comprehensive errata and rules updates”, which means it’s a lot like a round number of a new patch. Basically, what 5.5E/One D&D is looking to do, though, perhaps not to that extreme.

Every game will end up being a Warhammer at some point. This is one area that digital toolsets beat out their print counterparts. At least until it becomes really easy to roll out print updates.

For now, though, let’s take a look at the announcement!

Here are the salient details in a nutshell:

Pathfinder RPG publisher Paizo Inc. is pleased to announce the Pathfinder Second Edition Remaster Project, four new hardcover rulebooks that offer a fresh entry point to the popular Pathfinder Second Edition roleplaying game. The first two books, Pathfinder Player Core and Pathfinder GM Core, release this November, with Pathfinder Monster Core (March) and Pathfinder Player Core 2 (July) completing the remastered presentation of Pathfinder’s core rules. The new rulebooks are compatible with existing Pathfinder Second Edition products, incorporating comprehensive errata and rules updates and some of the best additions from later books into new, easier-to-access volumes with new presentations inspired by years of player feedback.

These books will be replacing the Core Rulebook, Gamemastery Guide, Bestiary, and Advanced Player’s Guide over time. Paizo won’t reprint those books when the current runs expire. However, the core rules systems will remain the same.

What are some of the changes you can expect to see? For starters, each core book will consolidate relevant information where it needs to be. All the Fighter rules will be in a single book, instead of needing two to play the best kind of Fighter of your dreams. But, perhaps the biggest change is the new publication will look to excise the last of the OGL content, setting up to replace it entirely with the ORC license instead.

And you thought the Edition wars were over.
