Lord Maul is back and is coming to Star Wars: Shatterpoint with an unquenchable rage!

Atomic Mass Games is showcasing the infamous Lord Maul as he will appear in the Star Wars: Shatterpoint. As a part of the Core Set he’s going to be an option right out of the box. Today, we’re getting a preview of his rules and what he’ll be able to do on the tabletop!

“Thought dead, Maul survived his injuries by focusing on his hatred of Obi-Wan Kenobi™, the Jedi who cut him in half. His shattered body was dumped amid the refuse of a junk planet, where he was found by his brother Savage Opress™. Opress brought Maul back to his homeworld of Dathomir, where the Nightsister Mother Talzin™ used dark magicks to restore his mind and body. Maul reemerged, still obsessed with Kenobi. With his newly regained strength, he formed the Shadow Collective and took control of Mandalore. Unsatisfied by the power and status he has claimed, Lord Maul’s focus lies on his all-consuming desire for revenge.”

Now called Lord Maul, he’s still a potent (and very angry) Force user. He can actually tap into his anger and suffer damage to use his abilities instead of spending force to do so. He also gains an additional attack depending on how much damage he has taken. That said he’s only a Durability of 2. So while Sustained By Rage is a key part of his playstyle, all that anger does make him burn out faster than some other force users.

He does bring 8 Squad Points to the table though so you’ll be able to bring some support and perhaps some longer-lived units to help keep up with the objective game.

While Lord Maul is on the table his is a major threat. He’s great at running down enemy units and taking them out. Force Speed allows that gap to close quickly and even if the victim err…target is out of range there’s always There Is No Place To Run to use. This ability doesn’t just pull the target closer, it also applies the Exposed condition.

Revenge, I Must Have Revenge is another ability that combos nicely with Sustained By Rage. It allows Lord Maul to move and make attack when he’s wounded by a melee attack. It’s a five dice attack but you also get the bonus from Sustained By Rage.

“As a Primary Unit, Lord Maul can choose from two Stances in combat. Sinister Cunning is a Stance that doles out a fair number of conditions and offers Lord Maul a strong Ranged attack option. Dark Rage is a high damage Stance with multiple Shove results in later Combat Tree Options. One key difference in these stances is their Defensive Expertise Charts, with Sinister Cunning providing more solid damage mitigation and Dark Rage relying more on healing after the fact and applying pressure against more control focused combatants. Lord Maul is an undeniably fierce combatant – and with proper management of his Stamina and Stance choices, players will soon help him have his revenge.”
