This model marked a pivot for Games Workshop and this particular Space Marine Standard Bearer represents more than the honor of the chapter!

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Warhammer and Games Workshop is taking some time to look back at miniatures that had a big impact on their work. Today’s retrospective is a special one as it showcases a specific miniature that has a rather unique designation and also marked a big move for Games Workshop. A Space Marine Standard Bearer like no other this miniature commemorated the move to Warhammer World!

“This Adeptus Astartes had the honour of being the first ever miniature to be cast at the current Warhammer headquarters, blessing the forges in the name of the Emperor of Mankind.”

Space Marine Standard Bearer

This particular Standard Bearer has the distinction of not only being the first miniature ever cast at the current Warhammer World location but it also marked the point when the company itself moved the HQ and almost everything else to the location. This was a BIG step and this Standarder Bearer is still on full display at Warhammer World!

The Standard Bearer itself is an iconic Mark VII ‘Aquila’ Power Armor wearing Adeptus Astartes. This was the look for Space Marines for the longest period of time in the History of Warhammer 40,000 (so far). It’s a look that’s even called back to in the newest Sternguard Veterans.

While this model might not be in print anymore his legacy lives on in the more modern Space Marine miniatures. From the classic Space Marines to the newer Primaris the bearer of the Chapter’s Standard is still a prominent figure on the battlefield who inspires his battle-brothers. But this particular Standard Bearer represents a lot more than just the Chapter’s history — it symbolizes some real world GW history and a whole lot more to come!

If you’ve never been to Warhammer World it’s a real treat for fans of Warhammer. I’ve been and must say it’s certainly worth the trip!
