Goatboy’s Grimdark Armylist: 10th Edition-Proof Thousand Sons

3 Minute Read
May 4 2023

Goatboy here talking about how to build a new Thousand Sons army that can stay valid for 10th Edition.

Today we dive into another breakdown of an army build utilizing some of the combo boxed sets we have out now.  This time we’ll look at  Thousand Sons as they have two combo boxes that seem pretty good.  I think we can begin with a base of them and add a few other things to help spice up an army pretty quickly.

First Thing – Grab the Thousand Sons Combat Patrol & Boarding Patrol

First of all – will keep this army as just a Thousand Sons as we are not sure about the makeup of some of the other army lists for 10th.  We might see some combo with Chaos Daemon options and other fun stuff.  So we’ll start from there and will go grab a Combat Patrol and Boarding Patrol. This should total out to about $240.00 or so for both of them.

Infernal Master – 90pts
Rubric Marines X 10 – Warpflamers – 237pts
Rubric Marines X 10 – Default – 210pts
Tzaangors X 20 – 140pts
Scarab Occult Terminators X 5 – 215pts
Chaos Spawn X 2- 42pts

PTs: 934

Next, Add Some Finishing Touches

That is a pretty decent amount of troops and other fun stuff.  I think the big thing missing, of course, is just the HQ choices which is where the army seems to run a lot of its power.  I expect them to still be good in the new edition, so let’s get to work.

Next, we can easily buy an Exalted Sorcerer boxed set.  This gives you 3 Exalted Sorcerers to mess with and sits at another 300 points at 55 bucks.

Exalted Sorcerer – 100pts
Exalted Sorcerer – 100pts
Exalted Sorcerer – 100pts

Next up we might as well as look at Magnus too.  He is a big chunky model, costs around 150 bucks and would get you 420 points added to your army pretty easily.  I get the feeling he is going to be pretty bad ass come 10th so adding him should finish this army list up with enough room to go into more troops, rhinos, or other things that sound cool.  Will go ahead and add another box of Terminators too – as it still keeps us under 500 dollars.

Magnus the Red – 420pts

PTs: 1870 or so points with room to grow.

You might want to add in a Daemon Prince or just look at Rhinos for your Rubrics.  This army sits right under 500 bucks and gives you room. There isn’t anything too exotic aside from Magnus, and no matter what, you want him in your Thousand Sons collection. This should be easy to collect, and give you a solid lineup for whatever 10th Edition throws your way.
