Sweet Tooth is Unleashed in First ‘Twisted Metal’ TV Series Trailer

The next live-action video game adaptation is here, and it’s a… Twisted Metal TV series. Yes, you read that right.

Video game adaptations are once again the hot new thing – and they’ve been pretty good this year. Peacock has decided to jump in with an adaptation of… Twisted Metal. The hugely popular PS-1 era vehicular warfare game. It’s demolition derby mashed Mario Kart’s Battle Mode on steroids, plus fire cannons and some killer clowns. There hasn’t been a new game in the franchise in over a decade. It’s an off-the-wall pick, but its simple premise makes it hard to screw up. Right?

The post-apocalyptic action comedy series is from Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. It looks like they’re replacing arena-based vehicular combat with a delivery run across a wasteland filled with well-armed enemies, but that doesn’t mean they can’t throw it in later. The first look doesn’t reveal much – but the tone feels right, and that Subaru’s sound system is pretty sweet.

Twisted Metal Cast & Details

The cast features Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Thomas Haden Church, Will Arnett, and Samoa Joe as Sweet Tooth. Featured guest stars include Neve Campbell, Richard Cabral, Mike Mitchell, Lou Beatty Jr., and Tahj Vaughans. Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai) is the showrunner and lead writer. The series is produced by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

A high-octane action comedy about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

Twisted Metal drops on Peacock on July 27th.
