Games Workshop is showcasing the Priesthood of Mars with a new Faction Focus. The Adeptus Mechanicus marches in to 10th edition.

Blessing of the Omnissiah are upon us with a new rules preview for the Adeptus Mechanicus. How will theses disciples of the mysterious machines on Mars fair in 10th? What sorts of mechanical advantages are they crafting? It’s time to check out their rules to find out!

“The Adeptus Mechanicus remains one of the premier shooting armies in Warhammer 40,000, with their distinctive technology giving them all sorts of tricks on the battlefield. In particular, the brilliant tactical skills of the Tech-Priests improve Battleline units in close proximity, working together as a cohesive whole – just like the great machines of Mars.”

Adeptus Mechanicus Faction Rules

Army Rule – Doctrina Imperatives

Swapping from defense to offense (and back again as needed) is really going to be the trick to mastering this army. If you can find the right pacing to toggle between the two Imperatives you’ll be in a really good spot. But choosing poorly could hamper your army and your overall battleplan — or at least make it slightly less efficient.

Detachment Rule – Rad-Cohort

This is a pretty gnarly attack. Dropping theses free hits every round for enemies in the deployment zone is a great way to get them to move up. The alternative option for the first round to take cover causes the unit to be battle-shocked. This basically presents your enemy with two bad options and says “hey, pick one.” That’s mean…and I can get behind it!

Stratagem – Aggressor Imperative

While the Conqueror Imperative is active you’ve go the ability to cause one Skitarii unit to Advance and Charge in the same turn. Alternatively there’s also a stratagem when you’re in the Protector Imperative.

Stratagem – Bulwark Imperative

Bump up your Invulnerable save to 4+ and suddenly that unit is going to be able to absorb a lot more firepower!

Skitarii Vanguard

The Battleline of the Mechanicus, the Skitarii Vanguard you can take a whole lot of these units. They are going to be the cogs in your great warmachine — or at least the grease that keeps the gears turning. They have some fairly good ranges for their shooting and can put out some firepower down range. They might not be super tough or have a great save but they do come with a 6+ Invulnerable which is sure to throw a wrench in your opponent’s plans. “You just had to roll that 6 to save, didn’t you…”

They also have a few abilities we’ve seen versions of before. Enhanced data-tether allows for a refund on CP if you roll a 5+. Additionally, they have a way to ignore cover so that should help their shots land, too. Also, on the offensive, they can reduce the enemy’s Objective Control by 1 which could allow them to take a contested objective.

The Adeptus Mechanicus also has some synergies with their Battleline options. Ruststalkers, for example, get to add some additional movement to their advance and charge rolls while they are nearby.

Belisarius Cawl

Belisarius Cawl is the mastermind behind a lot of the Adeptus Mechanicus and their functionality. You can see his statline above and while he’s not quite as tough as a Rhino, he’s got plenty of wounds, a 2+/4++ and some tricky skills to keep him around. Canticles of the Omnissiah gives him some flexibility with a trio of options for Auras. He also has the option for a bodyguard (which helps keep him around). And he’s also got the ability to self-repair. He’s certainly not a slouch when it comes to shooting and he’s better than average at melee. Just don’t expect him to take on a titan or anything.

Weapon – Eradication Beamer

The Eradication Beamer is back and does exactly what its name implies. Both shots are D6 and have a Strength of 9. However, if you are at 18″ there’s no reason to NOT swap to the Focused beam option. It’s an additional AP and damage!

The Adeptus Mechanicus will have to rise up and answer the Imperium’s call in 10th edition. Here’s hoping the Blessings of the Omnissiah are enough to turn the tide in their favor…
