Games Workshop dropped a teaser trailer and it’s starting to look a lot like a Horus Heresy version of Epic might be on the way.

Warhammer Fest 2023 had a ton of previews and announcements. But one has stuck out and has us just a tad shook. What are we talking about? Well, if you missed it, here’s the teaser video:

Sooo…It’s Epic, Right?

I’m not talking about the game studio, I’m talking about the massive battle system on a smaller scale. I’m talking about Warhammer 40,000: Epic!

Check out retro look back at Epic!

Only this looks a whole lot more like it’s a Horus Heresy version. What do I mean? Well we don’t have a lot to go on but the teaser video did give us a LOT more info than you might think:

From this one image we can see a some key things. We have the Sons of Horus with their icons on the bottom of the image and we have Iron Hands coming from the top. But what is that image we see on the top right allied with the Iron Hands?

That’s the Adeptus Titanicus symbol! We’ve got a Titan on this battlefield, folks.

Now then, why would we see the Sons of Horus vs the Iron Hands with Adeptus Titanicus back-up if this wasn’t set during the Horus Heresy? Also, the current iteration of Adeptus Titanicus is ALSO set during the Horus Heresy…

It’s right there in the title…

For years we have been saying (along with pretty much everyone else) that Games Workshop needed to bring back Epic and that Adeptus Titanicus feels like a short hop away from that already. Plus Adeptus Titanicus and Aeronautica Imperialis are both in the same scale. And what better way to add even more units to a model range than to repurpose these into a new Epic-scale game?

It’s pretty clear that the teaser is set in the Horus Heresy. Adeptus Titanicus is already set in the Horus Heresy. We’re dealing with a system that has you “Command Legions” which is much more of a Horus Heresy thing than “Command Chapters.” And fans have wanted Epic to return for a LONG time. All of this lines up a little too well. The teaser video is even titled “Battle on a New Scale” for Emperor’s sake!

Also by keeping this version of “Epic” in the Horus Heresy they keep the focus on the Imperial Units, just like Adeptus Titanicus does. They can make 1 kit and 18 legions can use it. This helps keep the development costs way down compared to having to support a Warhammer 40,000: Epic version where you’d have to create armies for…everyone. And if the game takes off maybe GW DOES invest into it and makes a more modern version with Orks and Aeldari units…just saying.

I’d just like to one other thing out when it comes to the history of Epic…

First came Adeptus Titanicus. Then came Space Marine…

Well, we have Adeptus Titanicus: Horus Heresy now…Are we about to see a “Space Marine” expansion for it so that it can eventually become Epic: Horus Heresy?

There’s just too much stuff that lines up. On the other hand this could be a giant troll by GW and we might be seeing a Teaser for a new Total War: Warhammer – The Horus Heresy or something. Time will tell…
