John Sheridan finds himself lost in time and unfamiliar realities in the first trailer for Babylon 5: The Road Home. Can he find his way back to the station?

Last month a surprising bit of news dropped direct from the series creator J. Michael Straczynski–an animated movie is coming out this year. It continues the story he started in the 1990s and brings back several original cast members. The movie will offer a deeper look at the original series to current fans and introduce new viewers to the characters, history, and structure of the Babylon 5 universe.

Fans have been on the edge of their seats waiting for a first look at the movie. That arrived late yesterday with a teaser and some stills featuring familiar faces.

In the teaser, several characters say they saw the dawn of The Third Age of Mankind. John Sheridan coined the term. It’s the period following the departure of the First Ones. The Third Age marks the start of the Younger Races being able to stand independently – like a child becoming a young adult, leaving home, and having to fend for themselves. It’s a volatile stage that can end races and the civilizations they’ve created. Mankind’s Third Age started when Babylon 5 was founded, though it wasn’t recognized at the time.

The Official Trailer

It seems enough time has passed between the end of the live-action show and the animated movie that humanity sees the creation as the beginning – and continues to progress. But that next step doesn’t go as planned. After an accident, John Sheridan is whipped through multiple timelines and alternate realities. He must find his way back to Babylon 5.
