Groo the Barbarian is your classic fantasy hero, and fortunately, this Groo doesn’t come with any yellow tic-tacs.

Groo: The Game was originally released in 1997, but Steve Jackson Games is bringing Sergio Aragonés’ hapless comic hero to your tabletop through a crowdfunding campaign over on Kickstarter. The game is expected to ship in November of this year.

Groo himself is based on the Groo The Wanderer comics, where he would, rightfully to his name, wander from town to town smashing everything to bits along the way. STG have taken the original game and expansion and combined them into a single box. They’ve also made just a few minor adjustments and tweaks to bring the game up to the Steve Jackson standard of fun.

“I played this game a lot when it first came out, and the comic Groo is just awesome,” says Steve Jackson, President, and Editor-In-Chief of SJ Games. “So I went to great lengths to get the right to republish it, and I think it was time well spent. Enjoy, and may Groo leave you something besides rubble when he visits your town.”

In Groo: The Game, players build towns by rolling big, chunky dice. The fact that the dice are big and chunky isn’t gameplay relevant, but it’s a welcome bonus. The dice grant players resources, which they use to construct buildings, which grant victory points. Players can also assemble armies to defend their towns and attempt to wreck each other. But of course, Groo is there doing his best to not destroy everything around him but always failing anyway.

The player with the last town standing wins!

The game is currently live on Kickstarter, so head over there to find out more!
