Marvel has finally released the synopsis for Loki Season 2 – plus a look at new cast members and images from the show.

News about the second season show has come out slowly since the post-credit at the end of the first season dropped in July 2021. We’ve gotten bits and pieces since then, including some very short teasers, cast announcements at last year’s SDCC, and some paparazzi photos of the cast on location.

Marvel has released another bit of information for fans–the synopsis.

Loki Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15 and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.”

It’s vague, but hey, they put out something. Based on everything that’s available, the new season starts right where Season 1 ended–right after Kang takes over the TVA. Loki will have to fight to save the organization and against it simultaneously. That’s going to take traveling across the multiverse looking for lost comrades and dealing with other variants of Kang, like the one in the Ant-Man 3 post-credit.

The battle will challenge Loki in ways he hasn’t encountered before. He learned a lot about himself last season, in part by dealing with other versions of himself. Tom Hiddleston told Total Film that there’s more for the trickster to discover next season.

“What can I say? It’s very much continuing to excite and challenge me. At the end of season 1, the story isn’t over. I think that’s really clear. Loki’s almost more unstable, and as turbulent and passionate and chaotic as he’s ever been. And maybe some of that needs resolution. There’s stuff to unpack.”

Loki Season 2 Trailer

There’s not a trailer yet, but we’ve gotten a peek at the show over several Disney+ previews that show Loki in a 1970s-style tux, falling through the main hall of the TVA, and destroying a mosaic featuring the timekeepers. Marvel has pulled out of SDCC, so there won’t be a big panel in Hall H next month. Rumors are saying we’ll get a real look at Loki Season 2 right after Secret Invasion wraps up on July 26th.

Confirmed Cast

The new season brings back Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Owen Wilson as Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Judge Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Eugene Cordero as Casey (your favorite TVA desk jockey that keeps infinity stones in his desk drawer), Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, and Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror.

Newcomers include Rafael Casal (Blindspotting), Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones), and Liz Carr (The Witcher). The amazing Ke Huy Quan is playing a new character named Ouroboros.

Ouroboros is described as the Q of the TVA, possibly supplying Loki with gadgets as he tries to chase down Kang. There’s not a direct link to the character in the comics, but the name does have a link to the themes we’ve seen in the show. The snake biting its own tail represents the beginning and end of time.

Loki Season 2 Release Date

The show’s release date has been moved around (like all of Marvel’s slate) – it was initially a summer release before being pushed to fall. Loki Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on October 6, 2023. Let’s hope that sticks.
