Travel to another world and save the princess in a video game-inspired setting with these Magic Knight Rayearth cosplayers.

Who remembers Magic Knight Reyearth? This series was my first favorite anime that wasn’t Sailor Moon, and Fuu was my first-ever cosplay. So when I saw this set of gorgeous Rayearth cosplay, I was immediately smitten. The detail! The flow! Those swords!! This is everything thirteen-year-old me wanted, and these magic knights just might have inspired me to revisit that very first project.

Reyearth was an isekai anime from the early 90s, so before the genre became supersaturated to the point of being a trope. And on top of being a delightful bit of fantasy escapism, it also pulled heavily from video games and RPGs. The girls go to magic old to save the princess. But along the way they have to learn magic and get special weapons, all the while fighting monsters that look and feel a lot like dungeon crawling and level grinding in Final Fantasy.

Rayearth was also by CLAMP, the manga-ka power group responsible for Cardcaptor Sakura and XXX Holic. This means that artbooks were released with hundreds of options for gorgeous outfits that never appear in the series itself, but would make any customer drool. That’s where cosplayer Jacqui and her sisters came in with their perfect and oh-so-flowy take on this Rayearth artbook page.
