The new short released by Disney, Journey to Ahsoka, has us even more excited for the return of our favorite former padawan.

Since it was announced, fans have been hyped as heck for a full season of live-action Ahsoka. Throughout the animated series, The Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker‘s former padawan quickly evolved from an annoying sidekick to possibly the fandom’s single favorite character. And I don’t know if that’s due to anything but good writing, and character development on Dave Filoni’s part. So we’ve been optimistic about Filoni back in the mix, along with the character he created; this time in live-action.

Today Disney and Star Wars posted a short video that reminded us how much we love this character, and how excited we are for Rosario Dawson’s return to the galaxy far far away.

Journey to Ahsoka

If you’ve been here for a while, you probably remember some of these moments from when they happened in real time. From the animated moments to some of our favorite moments from Star Wars Celebration, scenes from her appearance in The Mandalorian and finally a few looks at her upcoming stand-alone series, there is a lot of Ahsoka Tano love in this almost two-minute short. And with all of that love comes a lot of added excitement for us, the fans.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean that there was much in the way of additional information about the series itself. The clips and behind-the-scenes peeks we saw were very quick, and I’m pretty sure were all things we’d seen before. But maybe there were a few sneaky hints hidden in there.

Dave Filoni says, “With Ahsoka it’s time that she came into her own in a way we’ve never seen it before.” And after spending all of these years with Ahsoka- both in canon and in real life- I can’t imagine what ways we haven’t seen before. We’ve watched Ahsoka join and then leave the Jedi order, join the Rebel Alliance before it was the Rebel Alliance, go toe to toe with some of the biggest baddies in the universe, and survive Order 66 against the steepest of odds. As far as I’m concerned, she came into her own in-universe decades ago. But Finoni says that we’ll be seeing something we’ve never seen before. And I think we may have to just believe him.

Dawson herself references the massive scope of the story. Meanwhile, Favreau promises to maintain a “sense of fun, adventure, and imagination.” So while the trailers and the cliffhanger at the end of Star Wars: Rebels gave us a pretty good idea of what to expect, I have to wonder if that will just be the tip of the spaceberg.

Ahsoka

Ahsoka is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, August 23rd, streaming directly to Disney+. It will feature Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, and Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger. Lars Mikkelsen is returning to his animated role as Grand Admiral Thrawn. And, of course, Rosario Dawson will be staring as Ahsoka Tano herself.

Will you be turning in on August 23rd for the first episode of Ahsoka? Did anything stick out to you in Journey to Ahsoka? What other characters would you like to see make the jump from animation or comics to live-action? Let us know in the comments!

May the Force be with you, adventurers!
