High-level adventures are rare in D&D 5E, but you can claim Giants of the Starforge for free right now on D&D Beyond.

It is an unfortunate truth of D&D that very few people end up playing in the high-level end of the spectrum. It’s not hard to see why it’s tricky: high-level play, especially in 5E, takes so much more prep and planning than at lower levels. Characters have abilities that can end fights before they even get started. The damage they can deal in a single round is astronomical.

But beyond that, most people like to start at the beginning with a character. Or close to it. You’ll find plenty of people who don’t mind starting at level 3, but suggest “start at level 8” and the story changes.

As a result, official examples of high-level adventures are few and far between. And often they’re not very good. But! There’s a new, free 16th-level adventure out right now, Giants of the Starforge, which not only shows off new Giants, but new resources for putting together an adventure from Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants, due out two weeks.

Giants of the Starforge

Snag this free adventure with your D&D Beyond account and go on a mammoth journey to save a famed smith! This adventure was created using resources found in Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants!

In Giants of the Star Forge, the party is tasked with a daring rescue of a famed smith. The 16th-level adventure is inspired by resources provided in Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants!

Claim this collection to unlock its contents for use with D&D Beyond, including the supplement in digital format in the game compendium and in the searchable listings, character builder, encounters, and digital sheet.

This adventure plays with the old familiar saw of the Ordning. Which is like the Ranking of Kings, but for Giants. And if you don’t get that reference, you are missing out, my friend.

Regardless, the adventure unfolds in some interesting twists and turns, but what really seems exciting is the depths of the “adventure creation” tables the book includes. With just a little bit of finesse, this adventure went from a series of encounters to the 16th-level romp you see today.
