Goatboy here, with the latest 40K Meta Hotness – Necrons! The toasters are back, all charged up, and may have a solution to the Aeldari menace!

Instead of talking about one unit let’s look at the new army that is trending a bit to deal with the Aeldari menace.  Aeldari was an issue last edition, and it looks like even with some FAQ tweaks they are back to being a bit of a tough monster to crack.  You put in a few tough units and enough fast things to run around the table, and you got a perfect combo of winning potential. But enough about them, let’s talk Necrons!

The new Necron rules were an alright bag as it basically created some very tough units to try and chew through.  With some much-needed reanimating to help bring your models back the army is just hard to clear.  Of course, you also got a big upgrade on the C’Tan with the ability to heal more as well, and you got an army that can survive Aeldari going into them.  This is important as the current game is really all about holding the middle of the tabletop, like it is some sacred treasure lost eons ago during the War in Heaven.

As a whole, the Necron army plays a lot like the Adeptus Custodes army does.  You flood the table with some hard-to-remove options like Lychguard and C’Tan.  They can take a hit, dish out damage as needed, and easily score you some objectives.  The whole point of this game is to bring extremely deadly shooting mixed with board control. The Necrons can do that.

A lot of Necron armies are also mixing in some Destroyer options to help deal long-range damage, and just MSU they’re way to victory by covering the table in a ton of kinda hard to remove metallic bodies.  It is a big push to where I see some of the game evolving. Especially if the top  armies get hit soon with points and balance updates.

Necrons appear to be floating under the radar a bit. A new codex is coming within the first batch of books. This makes me think that collecting, building, and practicing with an army isn’t a bad thing for any new player out there.  The only real issue is some of the Necron models are hard to get if you don’t have Indomitus or know someone who bought a decent amount of it.

A Sample Tournament List

Here is a winning list from Australia by William Wykoff – or as I know him as Kirby “Will”.  I’ve known Will for a long time, and he has even come and visited Austin, TX.  He stayed with us a bit, we have a game somewhere on the YouTube’s, and he is a decent guy.  It was cool seeing him show up and winning an event with something other than Aeldari.  He used to write/own 3++ is the new Black so while he is a new name showing up for 10th he is not a new player.  It is just good to see him throwing dice again with all his man dollies.

He won 1st place at the Capital Clash – Ere We Go! – where Will defeated an Aeldari player in the last round.

Using the List

As you can see the Necron list is a double brick list followed by a ton of MSU options to help cover the table and provide damage as needed.  We’ll see if other armies follow this style of play that can build them and how the game ends up shifting.  I am sure after Nova and some of the other bigger events this trend will accellerate.  Hopefully, it can get to a good place soon as those top 4  armies are pretty dastardly. But if they get kicked down enough we might be saying the same thing about Necrons.

All Hail the Silent King!
