Typal not your speed? What about an army of Superfriends or a Theros level of enchantments? Commander Masters has you covered either way.

Welcome, Planeswalkers and Praetors! Well, the time has finally arrived; this Friday, the long-awaited Commander Masters set is releasing. This set contains powerful cards from all across MTG’s history to improve your EDH decks. Alongside the typical (and fairly high-priced) booster boxes, the set will include four preconstructed Commander decks, each based around popular EDH themes.

Closing up the fearsome foursome of precons is an Abzan Enchantments deck and a Jeskai Superfriends. The Abzan deck does exactly what it says on the tin: it benefits you for playing more enchantments. Even if they end up in your graveyard, your primary commander can bring them back as punchy Zombies to punish your opponents. The Jeskai deck, on the other hand, doesn’t really want you to play any of the typical spells. Rather, it wants you to assemble a coalition of powerful Planeswalker friends to throw your opponents into the Blind Eternities. Both decks are pretty fantastic, but you can always tune things just a bit to make them even better.

Enduring Enchantments

Enchantment commander decks aren’t a new concept. Several powerful Abzan, Selsnya, and Mono-White creatures are so good at it, in fact, that they have their own keyword, “Enchantress”. However, Anikthea and Narci crank all the enchanting power up to eleven. Whether you want to play some Abzan Sagas, focus on Auras, or want to make your enchantments work harder for you, this deck can do it. Auras are probably the weakest choice, so you’ll want to focus on Sagas and static enchantments. Enchanted Evening, Sphere of Safety, and Doubling Season come to mind right away, since this deck can produce creature tokens that are still enchantments. You might also want to add some ETB doublers like Elesh Norn to maximize Anikthea and the Constellation abilities. This is the deck I’m getting, and I already have some nasty ideas.

Planeswalker Party

Superfriends is another popular EDH deck type, focusing on a few powerful Planeswalkers rather than creatures or spells. Commodore Guff, a new addition to the cadre of powerful mages, leads a Justice League of his own with this new deck. Improving it honestly won’t take much. You just need to add in a few proliferate cards (there are a ton in Blue and White) and a few more ‘walkers. The Jaces, Ajanis, and Chandras are all incredible adds, and may a Luxior can help you turn your wizards into warriors. Just watch out for enemies that can drain your counters, unless you have some evasion (looking at you, Teferi).
