We have sweet new Tyranid Codex goodness to play with. Here’s a Vanguard Onslaught Swarm I thing has LOTS of legs, and plenty of teeth!

I think the new Tyranid codex is pretty interesting and while it might not be nearly as brutal as Aeldari – there is hopes we see the game’s current top lists get kicked down a two.  This leaves those middle lists room to get in the top, cause some problems, and become the new issue for the day.  With that let’s build a new Tyranid list using one of the new Detachment’s – the Vanguard Onslaught.

This is the Lictor/Spy detachment that is designed for maximum pressure utilizing all your sneaky options to get close, get working, and helpfully keep the opponent locked in their zone.  Thus you can see the design is using lots of things with pregame movements to get close and figure out how to keep the opponent locked down.  I don’t think all the choices are optimized but again this isn’t about killing the opponent and instead just getting in the way say you lock down objectives etc.

Sneaking In with the Vanguard Onslaught

As you can see this is an army that will deploy all over the table, create lot of Lone Operative can’t shoot options, and then force a few Battleshock tests from time to time.  Everything is going to move up, get in the middle, and cause issues.  The two Norn guys are designed to hold objectives nearby and just be a pain in the butt to remove.  They have decent shooting which can help kill big things as the rest of MSU nonsense goes about forcing that pressure.

That pressure is something a lot of 40K can’t always deal with.  It is a ton of small stuff, you have to throw wounds into them, and get close enough to get a counter assault to deal with them.  They don’t always hit the hardest but they can gum up the board enough to be a pain in the butt.  That is the key to a lot of it – just cause some problems as the rest of your army is scoring you points.

The other pieces are there to help with secondaries as usual with the Biovore dropping a spore mine or two to ensure you score those points as well as the Rippers coming in from deep strike and hiding away.  It isn’t perfect but it is a ton of the new stuff, a ton of weird Battleshock test options, and some ranged damage.  Oh those Neurolictors and Screamer Killer can cause up to four Battleshock tests at different degrees of minuses. So one should hit and then it gets a lot harder for the opponent to hold that point and keep scoring.

NOM NOM NOM!
