Warhammer 40K: Three Campaigns That Need A Follow-up

Games Workshop likes to release campaign books but has a habit of leaving the threads undone. We need a few resolutions!

Over the course of the 10 editions for Warhammer 40,000 Games Workshop has released quite a few campaign books. In fact, Abe even listed out more than a few plot threads that have been left dangling because of them. Personally, I do like the idea of campaign books but hate that we rarely get a follow-up on what happens. That’s actually one of the best parts about Primaris Marines — love’em or hate’em they helped advance the storyline forward which is a big deal.

That’s why I’m hopeful we will actually get some follow-ups on what the heck is happening from these three campaigns in particular.

Psychic Awakening – Ghazghkull, Prophet of the Waaagh!

What’s the biggest and baddest ork alive (again) up to these days? During the Psychic Awakening he got his head cut off by Ragnar Blackmane and that was then reattached to a bigger, badder body. Following that there have been sighting of Ghaz at various battles all over the Imperium simultaneously. So…what’s going on with the Great Waaagh!!! Will we ever get a follow-up to this crazy (and ork themed) campaign?

The Devastation of Baal – Debt to Khorne

If you’re not familiar with the events of the Battle of Baal you should really read up on it. The Blood Angels get bailed out from complete destruction by their ancient enemy Ka’Bandha (a Khorne Bloodthirster with grudge). In a really weird way the Blood Angels owe their biggest enemy a debt that’s only going to be paid for in blood. Eventually. The real kicker is that the Indomitus Crusade showed up shortly after to give the Blood Angels Primaris Marines. I guess we’re just going to ignore the massive Xenos and Daemon invasion, huh? I’m sure the Blood Angels will be fine…totally fine.

Arks of Omen – Abaddon’s Daemon Planet

The events of the Arks of Omen are still pretty fresh. I won’t go into great detail here but the main point is that Vashtorr and Abaddon’s great MacGuffin hunt (mostly) succeeded and they scampered off into the warp with “the key” in their possession. Now that “the key” has been complete they are off looking for “the lock” which will allow them access to “the weapon” which is supposed to have the power to destroy the Imperium. Oh and possibly propel Vashtorr into power as the fifth chaos god.

The point here is that lots of crazy stuff happened and (arguably) the biggest baddy of the Imperium is off on a mission to destroy the Imperium for good. And he seems to be free to do so thanks to the fact that the Tyranids just launched a very distracting invasion. I’m sure this will all end well.

Warhammer 40,000 has had some CRAZY campaigns. Which ones would you love to see a follow up on? (Looking at you Ynnari!)
