After the NOVA Open reveals we’re starting to wonder where’s the missing Space Marine Combat Patrol.

It’s no surprise that the NOVA Open had a bunch of Space Marine reveals. I’m legit glad to see a few of these kits even if a couple weren’t that big of a surprise — given the fact we knew that GW had them on ice thanks to the whole Oghram Campaign. Space Marines are the next army on deck after Tyranids but looking at the Space Marine reveals there’s one surprising omission: The Combat Patrol.

Now, GW did just release the Space Marine Vanguard Task Force Box which…isn’t our favorite. However, there was a lot of theories that this might be a replacement for the old Combat Patrol: Space Marines. You remember… it’s this one:

And yes, the models in the Vanguard Task Force might be a more direct replacement, however, that’s not the case. Games Workshop released all the rules for the Combat Patrol Space Marines when the new edition launched and it’s based off the models in the Leviathan Boxed set.

Combat Patrol: Space Marines doesn’t include ALL the models from the Leviathan box but it’s a good chunk. The Combat Patrol includes:

  • Terminator Captain Octavius
  • Terminator Librarian Tantus
  • 5x Terminators
  • 10 x Primaris Infernus Marines

Again, going back to the NOVA reveals, we see we’re getting a Terminator Squad and a Captain, but not Infernus Marines. The Terminator Librarian is already out. It’s also worth noting that both the Captain and Terminator Squads are different than the Leviathan options which, again, makes me think they are going to be limited to the unannounced Combat Patrol box.

So what gives? Is Games Workshop just waiting for a later date to announce a new Combat Patrol: Space Marine box featuring the Leviathan Marines? Perhaps they don’t want to dangle the Combat Patrol Terminators when there’s a new non-push fit version coming soon.  It’s just a little surprising that they were quick to get the Terminator Librarian out but the rest of the units are taking longer. So where’s this new Combat Patrol at?

You don’t have to be a psyker to know what’s coming with the Space Marines…
