D&D Accessories: Get October Started Strong With These Spooky Halloween Dice
We’re officially in October, and it’s time to stock up on lots of spooky dice for all of the horror games we’ll be playing this month.
It’s Halloween First! And while the pumpkin spice season has been going strong for a little while now, I’m very excited to break out my (admittedly too many) Halloween decorations, start watching all of my favorite scary and not-so-scary movies, and stock up on candy.
Unfortunately, I also happen to live in one of the biggest Halloween tourist cities in the US. So October also means that downtown is dead to me until November and driving without traffic in general is completely off of the table. Luckily, I don’t need to go downtown to get any of these spooky Halloween-themed dice sets for any of the horror one-shots we have planned this month.
1. Spooky Stuff
The design on this dice set is really simple, and I appreciate it for that. Each die has a different Halloweeny motif, from bubbling cauldrons to gravestones. Numbers are in their normal spot, and the black numbering makes them easy to read.
Of course, if orange isn’t your color of choice, these dice also come in a pretty wide variety of colors. As well as Christmas designs, if you’re planning ahead on your holiday sessions a little.
2. Dragon Eye Dice
With giant, green dragon eyes trapped in the otherwise clear resin, these dice are watching your every move. So whether you crit pass or crit fail, it just may be personal. Any time an inanimate object suddenly makes itself known as a sentient creature or something meant to spy on you, it becomes a hundred times more creepy, and the effect on this set is beautifully and cleanly done.
There are also a few other sets with other eye colors and even a few more human-looking eyes. Which honestly, may be even more unsettling.
3. Blood Splatter Dice
Whether you’re into Vampire stories, slasher movies, or just the general creepy factor of it all, the simple blood-splatter dice are never not perfect for a Halloween game session. This set is metal, giving it that really nice, hefty roll that many of us find so satisfying. And the design is perfect in its simplicity. The silver on black itself is a very clean look. And the blood splatter on top is striking.
4. Nightmare Before Christmas Dice
If you’re not playing D&D, but one of the many systems that require just a handful of D6, these Nightmare Before Christmas dice may be perfect for you. Designed to look like Oogie Boogie’s dice, the skulls have as many eyes as the number you’ve rolled. So these are pretty close to classic D6. Just with that Tim Burton charm. And if you like Nightmare Before Christmas, but aren’t into these dice specifically, there are options.
5. Simple Skulls
One more set for anybody looking for a bunch of D6, these dice are as spooky as they are subtle. They look like regular dice like you would find in any Monopoly set at first glance. But each number dot is a human skull. I love these and I may need to get them for a haunted house session I’m going to subject my family to.
