Warhammer 40K: What Would You Add To The Adeptus Mechanicus?

The Adeptus Mechanicus army has a lot of really great kits that fill roles in the army — so what would YOU add to it?

With the Ad Mech getting a new Codex soon I’ve been wondering what Games Workshop could/should add to the army to help it out and fill whatever holes are missing in the army. The problem is that it’s actually got a fair number of kits that already fill many roles. Now, it’s not Space Marine levels of redundancy but they have a lot of options. Plus, you can ally in Imperial Knights and that can really help “plug some holes” in your list, too.

 

That said, I was still thinking about what could be added. Here’s a few ideas:

Electro-Priest Character

Does anyone else feel like the Electro-Priest part of the Ad Mech has been mostly ignored? There’s two units of them and they can be pretty mean in close combat. That said, I know 40k doesn’t really favor Close Combat right now, but that’s another discussion. Regardless, I think that this is one area that could use some attention. The Ad Mech doesn’t have a ton of non-Tech-Priest type characters and the ones that aren’t Tech-Priests are probably Skitarii. So how about an Electro-Priest character to “guide the flock” so to speak?

Ursarax

I think the Ad Mech could use some of these fast-moving type of Automata Robots like the Ursarax. They’ve got Kastelan Robots to blast away at range but some sort of fast moving assault piece from the Robot side of things would be neat. Maybe they could be accompanied by our next entry…

Assault Geared Tech-Priest

The Ad Mech Tech-Priests aren’t exactly known for their Assault prowess. Those Tech-Priest Power Axes aren’t terrible…but they have other issues like their speed. I think a character that can move fast and keep up with some assault elements (think a Tech-Priest with a jump pack) might be a good option. Especially if you’ve got an Ursarax-type unit they need to corral.

New Sicarian Unit

I’ve always had a soft spot for these long-legged guys in the army. I I also think the Sydonian units are kind of their “big brother” units, too:

What I’d like to see is something that’s between both of these units. Something on a 40mm or 50mm base that still has the reverse-knee legs and probably comes in units of three. And yeah, I know that the Serberys Raiders are kind of that already…but I don’t want them to be mounted. I want them to be bigger and bulkier Sicaran units.

Yeah, something akin to the Skorpekh Destroyer size…

A Terrain Piece

Okay, I know that’s the Skull Altar from the Blades of Khorne but I think the concept would be perfect for the Ad Mech. Why is it that the priests of mars don’t have more temples or something like this? I mean the orks have a Mek Bay and I know the Ad Mech had rules for terrain that gave buffs to vehicles before:

But what I’m thinking is some type of smaller piece that a Tech-Priest can stand on and give out “blessings” to units far away. Kind of like a Vox shrine/comms relay thing. There’s lots of other things it could be as well. To be honest, I just want to see some more crazy Ad Mech Terrain that would be cool and functional to actually use in the game. That’s really what I’m after.
