Warhammer: Chaos Daemon Models Need Some Love

The Chaos Daemons of Warhammer are iconic and weird. But can they get some glow-ups, too?

Warhammer has a ton of easily identifiable models and units. Think Space Marines, Imperial Guardsmen, Orks, Eldar, Tyranids…you get the idea. And in the past couple years, really since Primaris Marines were introduced, Games Workshop has been updating these ranges. Everything has been getting slightly larger. Or maybe they have become a little more detailed. Heck, look at the Cadian Shock Troopers. They went from this:

To now this:

And that’s just one example. I know that it take a lot of time to crank out new units for Warhammer as there’s a lot of sculpting, planning, production, and logistics that goes into the whole process. So it’s not as easy as just snapping your fingers and *poof* updated models. However, I can already see the gears turning from GW and I think it’s time for the Chaos Daemons to get a glow-up.

I hope they start with the basic units. Daemonettes, Bloodletter, Horrors, and Plaguebearers. While the current plastic kits are fine as they are, I think GW could really do wonders with a refresh of those models. Heck, look at the new Underworlds Slaanesh models:

While these could individually each be a character for Slaanesh Daemons, they could also be the archetype of new versions of the Daemonettes or some other troop units. We’ve seen basic battleline options in Underworlds right along side character-type models. So it’s happened before. And again, I think that the current models are fine — but just look at the variety and variation with these three models. Now imagine those same features sprinkled through the rest of the Slaanesh line. And this doesn’t just end with them.

Each of the Chaos Daemon basic troopers could use a glow-up. I’d love to see a refresher for Bloodletters or Plaguebearers. Nurgle is another perfect example as the Maggotkin got a TON of cool characters. It would be great to see that same type of chaotic energy put into the basic troopers, too.

If nothing else, GW could at least fill out the units with some more poses and dynamic looks. The current plastics were all designed to work on square bases and rank up. Now that they don’t have to it GW could really get creative with these models and their poses.

Horrors might be the only exception to the square base thing…

I think it’s great that GW updated the Space Marines (again) with more new models. But I’d also like to see other factions get some attention in the form or model refreshes, too. I think the Chaos Daemons have a lot of potential to really be eye catching and iconic. And I know that they are probably a long, long way off from that. But it’s got to happen eventually, right?

Will we see all the Phoenix Lords get a refresh before Chaos Daemons? Your bets!
