It’s time to paint up the new Stormcast Ionus Cryptborn in this week’s Hobby Highlight!

Today I am showing a few of the new Ionus Cryptborn for Age of Sigmar.

Ionus Cryptborn and fellow release this week, Neave Blacktalon, are firsts for the Stormcast range- resculpts of classic models. For those who didn’t read the 1st edition starter set pamphlets, Ionus was the name of the Lord-Relictor included in that now venerable set. Now he is back riding a super cool new dragon mount.

Ionus Paint Scheme

I went with a mostly by-the-book color scheme for Ionus and his mount, black for his armor, and red for the dragon’s scales. But I did bring in a slight variation, carrying the cream from the dragon’s underwings and belly onto the front edges of the wings. I used the aged bronze I have been fond of lately for many of the armored parts. A burnt umber oil wash helped bring extra depth to the dragon itself.
