Goatboy with another shout out for the San Antonio Shoot Out – Vyasar threw out a crazy new Tyranid army list no one ever expected!

Here is Vyasar’s list to look over. The Assimilation Swarm is a not commonly used detachment from the new Tyranid codex that tries to help up units, cover the field in beef, and wreck your CSM brawler face in. Vyasar is a local from Austin, a super nice guy, and loves to play some Tyranids on the tabletop.  Big props for bringing a unique take on the bug codex  and just having a ton of hungry, hungry bugs on the tabletop. Let’s take a look!

Using the Tyranid Assimilation Swarm

The army is trying to use the Harvester units to heal up a ton of specialized infantry and make sure you have a ton of monsters to try and chew through.  There is just so much beef on this tabletop that it’s gonna be hard for some of the brawler options in the current MSU CSM builds out there.  It does look like Eldar are a rough matchup for the Swarm,  with Fire Prisms doing an excellent job of wrecking the big bugs. But the Assimilation Swarm could be a really good choice in a pressure-heavy tournament with lots of World Eaters, Orks, CSM, and other fun options.

The Army’s rule is to allow Harvester units near objectives the ability to heal Tyranid units nearby. This seems pretty good, as each of the monsters is hard to chew through. Regaining d3 wounds per turn seems like a powerful way to mess up the enemy’s damage math.  If you can’t remove a tyranid big bug right away, it becomes a nightmare as it gains some wounds, creates a unit that needs more shooting to chip away, and then eats something that gets too close by.
