Goatboy’s Warhammer 40K Meta Hotness – December 2023: Deffkilla Wartrike

Goatboy with a bit of 40K Meta Hotness before Xmas.  Here’s why the Ork Deffkilla Wartrike is zipping around the tabletop.

The Deffkilla Wartrike was a fun release a few Ork Codexes back with a really amped up 3 wheel’d Speedfreak unit.  While it never really caught fire that much before, now it is an interesting piece of Tech in 10th edition with a nice simple little enhancment update.

The Deffkilla Wartrike is a rather large-based Ork Warlord-like option that hits pretty hard, moves pretty fast, and is surprisingly tough to deal with.  A lot of the new Ork index datasheets really revolve around leaders riding things, and this is the one that decided to strap more wheels to his Warbike and throw in a buddy driving in the front.  A Mad Max-like contraption of death and destruction that is ready to be a big “monster” number 4 of 5 in the hero hammer that is the current Ork army list meta.

Deffkilla Wartrike is Tough to Deal With

One simple little enhancement amps up this character by giving him a 4+ Feel No Pain.  You are throwing this on a tough little body with 9 wounds, a 5+ Invulnerable save. Adding the 4+ Feel No Pain means this guy isn’t something you can just chew through.  This guy can shoot out in the front, survive a ton of firepower, and just take enough to leave your Squig Hog Boyz enough room to get close and start Krumpin’.

Decent Damage Output

Speaking of Krumpin’ the Deffkilla Wartrike has 4 Strength 10 attacks that can hit pretty dang hard if you get to close.  It isn’t the most amazing crush – that is the Beastboss on Squigosaur. But the Wartrike can move so much faster, that it more than makes up for it.  This guy is going to move, advance, and get close to throw out enough decent damage that it can easily help wreck some stuff if you need to.

Oh, the Deffkilla Wartrike is a Leader Too

Speaking of being a leader – this guy can hide in either Nob Bikerz or regular Warbikes as well.  This can be pretty fun, too, as it gives you a ton of extra wounds to surround the leader as well.  You throw him with some buds and the Deffkilla Wartrike throws out a +1 to hit on the unit – giving him 4 attacks that hit on a 2+ that could explode to do more damage as needed.

A Sample Tournament List

Alex Cameron got 2nd place with the following Ork list this past week at the Fight Before Xmas in New Zealand.  The Deffkilla Warrike didn’t have any buddies to ride with but he is so much of a pain in the butt to remove he can easily support a flank.

Deffkilla Wartrike Tactics

As you can see, this is a brawler-style army with a ton of MSU options that can all pull more than their weight in points if needed.  I think a lot of current Ork Pressure builds are going all in on as many “units” to help get close, have a ton of chances to roll that charge, and hopefully cause a headache for the opponent to deal with.

WAAAGH!
