An epic build requires epic inspiration. This must-see Lord of the Rings brick-built diorama includes the biggest battles of Middle Earth.

The Guinness World Record for “largest interlocking plastic brick diorama” comes in the form of a massive Lord of the Rings diorama constructed at Smaerd Land (a children’s museum) in Shenzhen, China. A record they’ll hold for a while. It required a team of imaginative builders who love Tolkien and years to accomplish.

Lord of the Rings Brick-Built Diorama

The entire diorama contains 150 million pieces and measures around 2,060 square feet, which is about the size of the average American 3-bed, 2-bath house. It took a crew of 50 designers and builders several years to construct. The detail built into its multiple battle scenes is amazing. You’ll be able to recognize locations in the LoTR books as you take this virtual tour through the build.

A short video can’t capture the detail and the scope of this brick-built diorama. I’d bet it would take several museum visits to take it all in, from the orc hordes at Orthanc surrounded by the Ring of Isengard to Rohan and the gory of Lothlórien. It’s all there. There are even several underground caverns below the surface of the massive building that you can see through glass panels.

Rivendell LEGO Set

So you don’t have room or time to build the entire saga but want to build your own LoTR set. Look no further than this beautiful brick-built version of Rivendell. It’s inspired by Peter Jackson’s movies and invites you to build and explore the beautiful elven valley. It includes fan-favorite moments and objects from the magical place, as well as minifigs for the characters.
