After a month or so of dealing with an error that would accidentally delete save files, Xbox rolls out an update that fixes Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is an incredible game. But even it’s multiple GotY awards couldn’t help the taste one hard-to-combat error had been leaving in the mouths of Xbox players. Due to an issue with the Microsoft Games service, players had been reportedly losing their save files when the game would save but the service wouldn’t actually record that the game had been saved.

Which is bad enough on its own. But especially for a game like Baldur’s Gate 3, where we’re talking multiple hours lost, like tears in rain. There have been some workarounds, in the meantime. But janky save processes will have to do no longer. As Xbox announced a new system update that would address the save issue was available and would roll out automatically within the next week.

Xbox Announces Fix for Baldur’s Gate 3 Save Game Issue

“An Xbox System Update will be rolling out from today to address the Save Game issue on Baldur’s Gate 3. You can manually update your console via the Settings or it will roll out to your console within the next week.”

Pretty straightforward announcement. Does exactly what it says on the tin. All you have to do is go in and update your console via the Settings icon and you’ll fix the firmware. Or firm it up, at least.

This follows another recent Hotfix for Baldur’s Gate 3 that dealt with several crash issues related to save games getting to be too big. With the latest update, save files will be constrained, meaning that users, and especially console users, will hopefully have a lot more to play with. If you’ve ever run into Error 544, you know what’s up.

And while using the save game cap as a means of skirting around the Honour Mode save scum might be a thing of the past, the future looks ever brighter for Baldur’s Gate 3.

Now get out there and update your firmware before venturing forth!
