Goatboy here to talk about what we can expect from 40K’s disappearing units in the future Blood Angels codex.

With the new Dark Angels Codex coming out, you have to wonder what is going to get the way of the Dodo for the other upcoming Marine codexes.  There is still a plethora of resin models left in the lines of Blood Angels and Space Wolves lines, which has you wondering how many of these units will make it across the rainbow bridge to the other side.  It is a weird time for sure, and I think GW’s push to “lock” in purchasing only available unit options will be the big factor.

Both Dark Angels and even Necrons lost some of their characters.  This leads me to think we’ll see some removed from a future codex Blood Angels. There is a ton of “fat” in the current book depending on if GW wants to continue releasing a bunch of old plastic models – many of whose marine relatives got moved to Legends.  There are a few special characters just sitting there, living their life in resin, and I don’t think they will make it.

Let’s first say what will definitely stay in the game. I bet these following characters will stay just due to some factors like army fluff, updated models, and vibes. I don’t think everyone is going to go away, but there is no way they all live on.

Probably Getting a New Model

Brother Corbulo is one of those old weird models that is a character Sanguinary Priest, which is interesting for the Blood Angels army. Having a character might help one stay alive in brand new plastic glory.

The Sanguinor has to be up for a new model.  I could see one coming – which might explain all those rumors that ‘Sanguinius’ coming back.  That makes no sense but this golden angel in plastic with huge wings, doves, and whatever other nonsense sounds perfect.

Chaplain Lemartes feels like a no-brainer as the model is pretty nice still, even if it is resin.  Plus it just feels like a model that can be easily updated, put in a cool Death Company boxed set, and sell a fancy Death Company looking Codex.

They Might Disappear

Characters

Tycho the Lost – a model that is dead in the fluff makes no sense to keep showing up.  I know people like it for the DC side of things, but Lemartes makes for a much better DC option for a new fancy boxed set.  Let this guy and his White Dwarf army finally get buried and die.

Finally, we have Gabriel Seth, a model that looks cool, has a weird following, and sometimes might actually be good.  It’s a weird model that doesn’t fit into the codex. Really, the add-on of the Flesh Tearers is an odd choice and always felt like a 11th-hour addition.  If Gw is insistent on Seth surviving, they could just have a Flesh Tearers Detachment and make it all feel like Ravenguard/Deathwing but we’ll have to see.  Realistically, I rather see a new Seth model with a cool little extra detachment in a White Dwarf.

Plastic Kits

On the actual plastic side of things, there are many questions.  Are the old Dreadnoughts in BA staying?  Is the Librarian Dread going the way of Legends, even if the model still is decent?  Are we going to see those disappear, and the Primaris options take over?

It’s a hard thing to think about as the game feels like they are shoring the outliers up a bit, locking in what they want to sell, and just hopefully keeping the game from going off the rails a bit.  Of course, they let some resin models you can’t buy normally get insane in Necrons (Nightbringer and Deceiver), so who knows?  I just wish we would get more updates to models, hard plastic goodness, and options for living and breathing current armies.

Who do you think might get the axe in Codex Blood Angels?
