Bishop might be a time traveller but he’s looking to set things right. Take a look at this new rules preview!

Marvel: Crisis Protocol is getting a new batch of characters mostly focused on the X-Men. Today it’s Bishop’s turn under the spotlight. What can this time traveling mutant bring to your roster? Turns out quite bit!

via Atomic Mass Games

“Lucas Bishop was born in a dystopian future where Sentinels ruled over both human and mutant alike. Tattooed with a “M” over his right eye to make it obvious to everyone that he was a mutant and forced to live in a concentration camp, Bishop began to see the Exhumes, a group of human-hating mutants, as heroes. This began to change when he was attacked by one and saved by the X.S.E., a group founded to follow the ideals of Charles Xavier that he viewed as enemies. When Bishop and his sister, Shard, were attacked by another group of mutant criminals, Bishop’s mutant powers awakened and drew the attention of the X.S.E. officers who responded to the attack.”

Bishop, Time Traveling Mutant

Bishop is basically from the Days of Future Past timeline if you’re familiar with that story. Technically, he’s from Earth-1191, but we’re not here to split hairs. Let’s check out this stats and powers!

Coming in at a threat of 4 he’s certainly going to be fighting for a roster spot. There’s lots of strong threat 4 options out there but Bishop makes a pretty good case for bringing him along. His basic attack is the XSE Blaster which is an energy attack. It’s got a lot of the things you’d expect a builder to have but it does sneak in a range 4 shot. Additionally, if the target is within range 3 it causes the Incinerate special condition. Again, as builder, that’s more than solid.

His second attack (aka the spender) is Return With Interest and it does just that. It’a A2 and starts at 7 dice. But you can pump this up to a 10 dice attack. Additionally, you get to choose which type of attack is it! Would you like to toss 10 dice at the enemy’s weakest defensive stat? Because I would. And if you happen upon a wild in those dice you also get to push the enemy back (S) away. Plus they get slowed.

As far as his other abilities, they are also solid options. First up, he’s got Absorbed Energy Conversion. This superpower allows him to toss a terrain feature or enemy size 4 or less. They have to be relatively close at range 2 but they get Thrown (M). For three energy that’s not a bad power to use to get an enemy away from an objective.

Mutant Energy Absorption is a defensive ability that allows Bishop to change the enemy’s attack dice with wilds. Plus he get to gain additional energy. As you can see from his spenders and superpower, Bishop is a *tad* on the energy hungry side of things. But don’t feed him too much because he can take damage when he has eight or more energy due to Overload. But that’s the trade off for being immune to Incinerate, Poison and Stun!

Personally, I’m a fan if Bishop. For me the nostalgia is strong for this one and I want to find a way to slot him in my rosters in the future. Hopefully not his dark future…but you get the idea! You can pre-order the Bishop and Nightcrawler pack from Asmodee’s webstore now. They are due out March 1, 2024.
