Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, and Cary Elwes star in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Check out the first trailer.

The movie is based on a real-life story of a clandestine organization founded by Winston Churchill and Ian Flemming (the creator of James Bond) in the wake of major losses in the winter of 1939. They needed a new type of warfare to strike back – to go behind enemy lines and take them down from within.

Members ran from elite spies to maverick military personnel who preferred unconventional methods. Their goal: to undermine the Nazi regime using “ungentlemanly” tactics and acts of sabotage. This group of freelance pirates carried out devastatingly effective missions, often wearing the enemy’s uniform. And always breaking the rules.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

Guy Ritchie’s latest movie tells the story of these ungentlemanly agents. It’s based on war correspondent and military historian Damien Lewis’ best-selling novel – with some liberties. The cast is star-studded. It’s a Ritchie movie, which could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your taste.

Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE is an action-comedy that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including author Ian Fleming.

The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly “ungentlemanly” fighting techniques. Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare debuts in theaters on April 19th.
