Games Workshop Rumor Engine: Runestone Magic
The Rumor Engine is teasing a new miniature. Looks like someone is getting a magical runestone in the future. Or a really strange speartip.
Welcome to Tuesday and your weekly Rumor Engine from Games Workshop! Today, we’ve got a strange one and before we get too far into the theories you need to see it for yourself.
“The Rumour Engine is back and as incomprehensible as ever, which is fine because mystery is the spice of life. We’ve been on a roll with cool snippets of miniatures over the past few months – such as this creepy bottle and this monstrous maw – and it’s time to throw another into the mix.”

So what are we looking at here? The item itself looks like a rock of some type with a carved glyph on it. That rock is then inset in some type of branch that’s been tied in place with cordage or vines. There’s also a small creature’s skull hanging on the side. I don’t know why but my first thought was about Chaos Beastmen with this one.
Maybe it was the simplicity of the design or the rune but it made me think of a herdstone. I could easily see a Brayshaman carrying this into battle. On the other hand, there’s another faction that uses a whole lot of wood in their weapons and magic…
That said, they aren’t too big on the whole rock/gem thing. I’m not ruling anything out just yet. That said, I feel like this is going to be from a Warband kit. For example, something from Warhammer Underworlds or Warcry. GW tends to experiment more with those warbands before they push those miniatures in the full army range. I don’t think this is anything from the Warhammer 40,000 side of the house. Although, I would be just fine being wrong about that.
The biggest clue is the rune on the rock. If you know what that could be drop us a line in the comments because that could crack this case wide open! For now, share your thoughts with the rest of the class because this one has us stumped.
