Warhammer 40K: Did Games Workshop Skip The Orks?

There’s a little bit of confusion with the Warhammer 40,000 Roadmap from November. What happened to the Orks?

I’m sure you’ve see the new Kroot Previews for the upcoming T’au Codex. Games Workshop has really been hyping them up and we’re glad to see the Kroot side of that house get so much attention (even if it means there’s probably less T’au suits on the way). At the same time we are kind of wondering what happened to the Road Map from last year — are we just reading this wrong?

Road Map Confusion

Here’s the latest Road Map from Games Workshop. As you can see, at the time, we had Codexes for Ad Mech and Necrons in Winter 2023. Then in the Spring we had the list order of:

  • Dark Angels
  • Orks
  • Adeptus Custodes
  • T’au Empire
  • Chaos Space Marines

We were assuming that was also the order of release as well. And that seemed to be the case with the Dark Angels getting their codex and release recently. Although, technically, it’s only available from the Deathwing Box, which is now sold out.

Also, technically, the official start date of Spring is March 19, 2024. We’re still in Winter. So in some ways the Dark Angels are early? That’s part of the problem with these Road Maps and vague dates.

Anyhow, Games Workshop has thrown us a curveball with the Kroot and T’au teasers. Part of me is wondering if this was because they wanted to make a splash at Las Vegas Open 2024 (which, yeah new Kroot). But another part of me is wondering if they jumped the gun. Because I really don’t think we’re reading the Road Map wrong here…

At this point, I don’t really know any more. Perhaps as we get closer to Spring GW will drop a bunch of Ork teasers. Then we’ll see the new Ork Codex come out at around the same time as the Dark Angels Codex get it’s full release. Honestly, it feels a little like these new Army Boxes are really throwing things off. While I do like them on the deals side of things keep track of what’s actually widely available vs what is actually a limited pre-release is getting confusing.

The book is out in the wild…but not really?

In the meantime, the Kroot-hype is building as they ARE getting a new Hunting Party Army Box. As far as the new Ork Codex (and also the Adeptus Custodes) releases…well, good luck I guess?

Don’t forget about us, too!

Did T’au skip the line ahead of the Orks and Adeptus Custodes? Now that would be funny…
