T’au Empire got a new 40K codex which means a whole bunch of new enhancements.  Here are the top 5 ones you will see on the tabletop and how to use them.

While not everything in the codex will be phenomenal on the tabletop, you can tell that the ones that allow for some kind of movement or redeployment make for the best new “options.” Anything that lets you reshift your deployment or move before the game begins is very powerful in 40K 10th Edition. With that, let’s dive into the best of the T’au Empire Codex.

Mont’ka – Strike Swiftly – T’au Empire Model

The selected T’au Model gets the ability to pick two units within 6” that do not have Scout and they get to do a 6” scout move before other people get to do their scout move.  This is a pretty scary ability as it forces how this interacts with your opponent and lets you either put pressure on something up front, or do a feint and reshift how your army is set up or exposed.

Retaliation Cadre – Puretide Engram Neurochip – Battlesuit Model

Once per turn the bearer’s unit can be targeted with a stratagem that has already been used.  This is a different wording than the other “get to duplicate” stratagem as this one doesn’t say it’s free.  It makes me think we’ll see this one let the army double up on any Stratagem they have access to, since you still have to pay for both usages.

Retaliation Cadre – Starflare Ignition System – Battlesuit Model

This lets the Battlesuit bearer and attached unit be placed into Strategic Reserves at the end of the opponent’s turn if not in engagement range.  There are going to be games where you set a unit up on the field and pull them up for a first turn Deep Strike.  Of course this could also be a way for you to get a unit across the table and cover that objective as needed. Or it just lets you put some fusion damage into your enemy quickly.

Kroot Hunting Pack – Kroothawk Flock – Kroot Model

The bearer’s unit ignores cover and enemy units cannot be set up within 12” of the bearer.  The fact this Enhancement grants two abilities is pretty sweet. But also letting you create a bubble of no 3” Deep Strike options seems pretty powerful. You mix in some big fat unit to hide this guy in and you have something that could be a good defensive option for your Kroot armies.

Kauyon – Solid Image Projection Unit – T’au Empire Model

Select up to 3 T’au units after deployment and redeploy them.  This includes putting them into strategic reserves.  You can do this even if you have reached your limit of units you can put into Strategic reserves.  This is again ,a powerful redeployment option which can do wonders on either getting out of a bad deployment situation or just putting the pressure on the opponent. This is a much better version of the special rule Eldrad used to have back in the day.

For the Greater Good!
