Goatboy’s Grimdark Armylist: Winning With Adeptus Custodes, Minus Forge World

Goatboy here to see how hard of an Adeptus Custodes list we can build for – without any Forge World.  Let’s get golden!

It seems 40K 10th Edition has let the golden boys come back on a ray of sunshine to wreck the tabletop post Balance Dataslate.  Expect to play Adeptus Custodes again if you are going to a tournament and make sure you can figure out how to somehow survive the big-bodied jerks as they come to take all your candy.  Today’s army list is trying to build a non Forge World list that would probably be a decent army to take in a team environment just due to the nature of it being a hard counter to pressure lists like World Eaters, CSM, and Orks.

This list is pretty simple and designed to have a ton of rough bodies to try and chew through.  It’s also all plastic so it isn’t something you need to go find most of the time.  It is a ton of troops, a lot of wounds, and a pretty tough thing for foes to work through.  There are some good counters into this like Death Guard and anything that has a ton of Anti-Infantry style shooting to force you to roll a ton of saves.  Still, most things won’t like to get close to these Custodes as their counter punch is going to be rough to handle.

Adeptus Custodes Tactics

This is a pretty simple list as you will use the Wardens to move forward, the Guard to hold afterwards, and then the Prosecutors to come on from reserves and hold any back objectives as needed.  The Guard units can help hold the backfield too.  I would expect this list to do well on any of the GW Terrain set up, as a lot of lanes of shooting are blocked down and these guys love jumping through walls into their enemies’ deployment zone.

What do you think?  There is a lot of stuff most normal Adeptus Custodes players would have so it isn’t too hard to find all the pieces.  I really wish the Bikes were good again. I am hoping we see a Detachment that helps amplify them up a bit.  I might have a ton of them in boxes to – sweet!  If you wanted to look at Forge World stuff you could look at the Caladius Grav-Tank as it is a good option. But not everyone can get ahold of an expensive piece of Resin these days.
