WizKids announced a new expansion for Mage Knight, The Apocalypse Dragon, which will be the game’s first new expansion in a decade.

Mage Knight, the legendary board game from Vlaada Chvatil that you need one very good friend and a whole weekend to play, is back with its first new expansion since 2015. WizKids announced the title earlier today, while teasing a few details about what folks can expect in the upcoming game.

The expansion, titled The Apocalypse Dragon Expansion Set, will release in 2025, making a full decade between expansions. That’s how much people love this game. A decade later and it’s still one of the best board games out there. If you can play it. Because it’s one of those games where you have to make time to play it. It takes effort, but Mage Knight is absolutely worth it. And with this new expansion, perhaps it’s time to see if you can’t clear a random Saturday and/or arrange with a friend to call in sick on a Wednesday and play through a game or two again (also, just for my editors, I would never do this, especially not next week).

Mage Knight – The Apocalypse Dragon

The beloved modern classic is back with the first major expansion since 2015! You’ll meet a new playable hero: Coral, who wants revenge on the Apocalypse Cult. You’ll also find new enemies to fight, including the four horsemen and the fearsome Apocalypse Dragon. You’ll explore new tiles with new locations and challenges. This all comes together in a story-driven campaign mode featuring new scenarios and more!

Combining elements of RPGs, deck-building, and traditional board games, Mage Knight puts you in control of a powerful Mage Knight as you explore (and conquer) a corner of the Mage Knight universe. Build your army, fill your deck with powerful spells and actions, explore caves and dungeons, and eventually conquer powerful cities!

Mage Knight is an epic experience for up to 4 players, and great for solo players who wish to adventure on their own!

The Apocalypse Dragon is up for pre-order right now. So you can reserve yours now and, maybe, by the time it releases, you’ll have managed to play more than one game of Mage Knight.
