Brace yourselves for pulse-pounding action as the elite task force enters a fantasy world in Suicide Squad ISEKAI.

Isekai is a fantasy genre that has become one of the most popular genres in anime over the last decade. The protagonists are transported from their everyday, mundane lives into fantasy worlds filled with fantastical creatures, wondrous powers, magic, and plenty of dangers. Think Alice in Wonderland, The Neverending Story, and The Wizard of Oz. In anime, the best-known character is likely Inuyasha.

Suicide Squad ISEKAI

The latest addition to the genre has DC characters rampaging through an Isekai fantasy world. It’s titled Suicide Squad ISEKAI—literally, Suicide Squad Different World. The story takes the squad from Gotham to a fantasy realm with dragons, knights, ogres, and mutant pig people.

Eri Osada, the chief animation director of Jujutsu Kaisen, is directing Suicide Squad ISEKAI. Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara are writing the show’s story. The pair have previous experience in the Isekai genre through their work on the very popular Isekai series Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World. Character design is by Naoto Hosoda (Lupin III) and Akira Amano (PSYCHO-PASS).

Amano is especially excited to work on the new series.

I’m a big fan of Harley Quinn and the other characters in the Suicide Squad movie! It’s an honor for me to be involved in the creation of Suicide Squad ISEKAI. Eri Osada’s clear vision for Harley’s design made the process smoother than expected, and I enjoyed drawing her costume and muscles while imagining her action-packed adventures in the story. I’m excited to see how the talented animation staff brings Suicide Squad ISEKAI to life!

Cast & Details

The voice cast includes Anna Nagase (Harley Quinn), Yuichiro Umehara (Joker), Takehito Koyasu (Peacemaker), Reigo Yamaguchi (Deadshot), Jun Fukuyaman (Clayface), and Subaru Kimura (King Shark). The ending theme song is by Mori Calliope.

In the crime-ridden Gotham City, Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., has assembled a group of notorious criminals for a mission: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface and King Shark. These DC Super-Villains are sent into an otherworldly realm that’s connected to this world through a gate. It’s a world of swords and magic where orcs rampage and dragons rule the skies — an ISEKAI,” reads the show’s synopsis.

“Harley and others go on a rampage after arriving in ISEKAI but are captured by the Kingdom’s soldiers and sent to prison. They only have 72 hours before the bomb on their neck explodes. The deadline is fast approaching. After negotiations with Queen Aldora, the condition for liberation was the conquest of the hostile Imperial army. They have no choice but to throw themselves head-first into the front line of battle. They run; they die. They lose; they die. With their lives on the line, can Harley Quinn and The Suicide Squad survive in ISEKAI? Brace yourselves for the pulse-pounding saga of the elite task force known as the Suicide Squad as they embark on a jaw-dropping adventure! Let the party begin!”

Suicide Squad ISEKAI debuts this July in Japan. A US release date isn’t available yet.
