I hope you brought your suit because the T’au are keeping it classy with their Battlesuits in this detachment.

The T’au are known for their Battlesuits and now that they are on deck to get a new Codex soon, they are also bringing those suits out for war. In the new codex you’re going to have the option to bring a Detachment just for those fancy Battlesuits. Who needs back up when you look this cool, right?

“If you’re a fan of filling the battlefield with high-tech combat walkers – like a certain red renegade – the Retaliation Cadre is just what the Ethereals ordered. Its Detachment rule exemplifies the daring of these Bonded Heroes, delivering a high-stakes, close-range playstyle where battlesuits descend upon enemy units and blast them to pieces.”

Yep, you’re reading that correctly. The closer you get, the deadier your Battlesuits weapons are. GW calls out specifically Burst Cannons as ramping up to Strength 6 and AP -1. Sure you have to get with 6″ but with those shots there won’t be anything left to counter-attack! But if something gets a little too close there’s a Stratagem for that.

Jump in close, blast them full of firepower, and then scoot away with a normal move in the shooting phase. Seem good to me! Alternatively, let’s say you need to really get in there with a surgical strike. The T’au have a Stratagem for that as well.

The T’au are also taking a page from the Imperial Playbook as they are reorganizing their Crisis Suits into slightly different datasheets to benefit from their payloads better.

“The Sunforge configuration melts down heavy targets with twin fusion blasters, Fireknife battlesuits mix and match plasma rifles and missile pods to crack elite troops, and Starscythe teams choose from a buffet of burst cannons and flamers to wipe out massed hordes.

They’re all still Crisis battlesuits, but now they get custom abilities that really help out their chosen roles. Take the Crisis Sunforge Battlesuits, for instance – their Sunforge ability helps to mitigate the low rate of fire on their fusion blasters by giving powerful re-rolls against their ideal targets. With the Retaliation Cadre Detachment rule in play, you’re firing Strength 10 shots at AP-5, each dealing D6+2 damage – with a re-roll on both Wound rolls and damage!”

This also has one more benefit. By breaking up these Crisis Battlesuits into distinct Datasheets this skirts around the “Rule of Three” — they are all different Datasheets so you’ll be able to pack in a TON of Crisis Battlesuits if you want to. And if you have some different combo for your Crisis teams the OG Datasheet will be added to Legends so you’ll still be have rules for them in one manner.

Commanders can still join these units, too. And their abilities and loadouts are still flexible. They will benefit the squads they join so it’s really up to you how you pair up a Commander and the unit.

The T’au Empire is coming in hot with the Kroot wave. But the Battlesuits aren’t far behind…
