Goatboy’s Grimdark Armylist: Dancing Grey Knights, With All the Mortal Wounds

Goatboy here with a tricksy 40K Grey Knight list that dances its way across the tabletop, and dishes out the Mortal Wounds. Catch it if you can!

I talked a bit about the Grey Knights rising fast in the meta recently, so why not throw out a list?  It takes some of the mentioned bits of nonsense and tries to add in some Mortal Wound bombs to help create some murderous capabilities.  This isn’t an army that is built to go punch you in the face – it instead shifts the playing field to punish you with targeted mortal wounds.

The Grey Knight Librarian is one of the few ways to weild “targeted” mortal wound damage.  Their ability is to pick a target within 18” and on a 2+ cause them some Mortal wounds.  Heck, if you roll a 6 to hit you get 2d6 mortal wounds thrown into your unlucky target.  Let me tell you no one likes to take a ton of damage that way. Plus, as this isn’t a shooting attack, it gets around all those pesky minus 1 to hit and other fun stuff. NICE!

Putting the Dancing Grey Knights Together

With that in mind I decided to go with a armylist set up that throws three of these Grey Knight Librarians into simple 5-man Terminator units, takes some Dreadknights, and even throws in Draigo as a nice bully to help things out.  You mix that with a lovely Callidus Assassin (who should probably go up in points) and you got a dancing Grey Knight list that can easily punch the bad guy’s lights out if they need too.

I didn’t tweak any of the Terminator options beyond simply allowing the healing model in each unit.  I know you can add in one special gun, and while they are alright it really depends on what you want to do with them.  I am thinking Psycannons for all of them. But who knows if they will stay the best choice when codex Grey Knights finally comes out.

Using the Dancing Grey Knights

As you can see, it is a pretty simple armylist full of 2+ saves, 4+ invulnerable saves, and some bully characters to help things out.  Your whole plan is to dance around, throw a threat into the bad guy as needed, and then unleash a torrent of mortal wounds into anything that needs killing.  The only other tactic in all of this would be to figure out some way to get a Land Raider Redeemer in there versus the Dreadknights as another “come at me bro” option.

For the Emperor!
