Gwen Stacy is back in Marvel: Crisis Protocol and this time she’s got a little helper powering her up. Meet Gwenom!

Atomic Mass Games is back with a new Panel to Play showcase and this time it’s the symbiote infused Gwen Stacy as Gwenom. This hard rocking character brings the pain in the form of some suped up super powers and a crazy new sculpt. Let’s see what she can do on the tabletop!

“When Gwen Stacy’s spider powers were neutralized by Cindy Moon, Gwen was devastated. Losing her spider-given abilities was not something she could readily accept, so she went looking for a way to restore them. The path she took was a dark one, with short lived hope being dashed at every turn until the day she found and bonded with the symbiote, Venom, a creature well known for its violent tendencies. Now known as Gwenom, she takes the fight to her foes with a rage amplified to extreme levels thanks to the symbiote’s ability to feed on the emotions of its host and return them tenfold. No one in the underworld of New York is safe from this quick moving, hard hitting, and voracious being.”

Gwenom Unleashed

Stat-wise Gwenom is a 4/2/3 defense character with 6 health to start. She’s size 2 and moves Long which is important to note. She’s also a Threat Level 4. Defensively, she’s got that extra physical defense but is weak against energy. That said, she’s got some re-rolls with Spider-Sense for both of those stats.

Offensively Symbiote Spider Technique is her basic builder attack. It’s a range 3 and brings 5 dice. Additionally, this attack has two variations. If she has attacked that same target once already, she can reroll any number of the dice for this attack on the second go around. And if she’s Advanced or been placed, after this attack, she can Advance Long. This is a highly versatile attack and provides a TON of options for her. Furthermore, she also has Maximum Gwenom which is a 3 cost attack. It’s also range 3 and 7 dice. But it provides her with some possible regen via damage dealt. Additionally, it has some possible range 3 AoE damage.

Dark Rage is one of her super powers and it costs 3 energy. It’s a throw ability and those are always fun in the right context. Her other super power is Pick On Someone Your Own Size which gives her a counter attack type ability. It can only be used once per turn and costs 2. However, combine that with Symbiote Spider Technique for lots of shenanigans! Oh and naturally, she has Wall Crawler, too.

My initial reaction is “heck ya!” This character seems pretty fun to use and makes me want to run Web Warriors. The movement tech on top of her solid basic builder make her a nice option for lots of teams, too. Obviously you can’t run her with Ghost-Spider on account of how the alter egos work. That said, can you run her with Venom? I guess that doesn’t really apply to the symbiote (hah). Plus alternate realities and all.

This version of Gwen Stacy seems like she’s more ready to throw down compared to her Ghost-Spider form. I’m okay with this! I think it helps to make her play differently than her other incarnation and that’s what I’d want to see between character versions.

Gwenom is coming out May 17 and will be in a Character Pack with Scarlet Spider. It’s currently up for pre-order now.
