Managing monsters takes monumental effort, but one organization, Monarch is up to the titanic task. How? We break down the HEAV.

The international organization known as Monarch, created in the 1950s to monitor “massive unidentified terrestrial organisms” or MUTOs, has played a pivotal role in the discovery and exploration of Hollow Earth, as well as helping humanity deal with the appearance of several monstrous species now classified as titans. But with the discovery of a new world lurking within the one we know and call home, their reach expanded.

How do they maintain mobility between the worlds? The humble HEAV, or Hollow Earth Aerial Vehicle. These four-turbined vehicles have a strangely organic appearance and are able to maneuver at high speeds and under extreme conditions. Though a recent creation, the HEAV has already proved itself indispensable to the creatures of Hollow Earth.

HEAV – Design and Capabilities

While the HEAV rose to prominence because of Monarch’s use, the vessel is actually a creation of Apex Cybernetics. The shadowy corporation developed a suite of advanced technology based on new materials found in Hollow Earth. Apex created the HEAV to explore the strange environs of Hollow Earth at the behest of Monarch.

Each HEAV is a multirole vehicle. Using an array of 4 turbines, a HEAV can manipulate the strange energies of Hollow Earth, creating anti-gravity fields that allow it to remain highly mobile. These engines also generate an immense amount of energy, allowing them to output an electrical charge strong enough to restart the heart of a titan.

Apex Cybernetics designed them using advanced materials to withstand the gravity well connecting the surface to Hollow Earth, however, no materials have yet been found that can withstand the crushing strength of a rampaging titan. And as if that weren’t testament enough to the folly of humanity, the HEAVs are also equipped with weapons: two missile launchers, an eight-cell and four-cell missile launcher above each front engine, as well as a pair of chain guns chambered with 30mm autocannon rounds.

Both of these are little more than an annoyance to beings like Godzilla or Kong. Which is why Monarch redesigned the vehicle. In their redesign, the organization outfitted their HEAVs with biomimicry, allowing the ship to alter the coloration of its hull to blend in with its surroundings to avoid detection or even to mimic the appearance of nearby monsters.

HEAV – A History

Despite being new creations, HEAVs have played a significant role in recent titanic events. Apex Cybernetics initially developed these vehicles to harvest the energies of Hollow Earth. And this is where they enter the world stage. The collaboration between Apex and Monarch meant that Apex could dictate one of their own agents be assigned to missions to ensure their interests (energy) were being met.

This also helped to cloak Apex’s true intentions, developing their own mechanical titan that would be completely under their control, allowing humans to once again be “the apex predator of Earth.” However, their hubris quickly became apparent as Mechagodzilla almost immediately turned on its creators and everyone else.

However, a HEAV helped restart the heart of the fallen Kong, enabling one of the greatest team-up fights in recent history. And during recent events in Hollow Earth, a HEAV helped defend the newly discovered home of the lost Iwi, a people who manipulate gravity and communicate telepathically with each other and titans.

Though the HEAV is just a few years old, its importance to the world cannot be understated.
