Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has showcased it’s multiplayer modes. Time to grab your squad and prepare for Grimdark Multiplayer!

Focus Entertainment dropped a trailer yesterday outlining the Multiplayer Modes that are coming in Space Marine 2. There are multiple modes coming with a pair of co-op options and a few PvP modes. Also, a bunch of in game footage and customization options — all of which you can see below!

Space Marine 2 Multiplayer Modes

Let’s start with the 6v6 Multiplayer mode(s). There’s actually three different game types for these PvP matches between the forces of Chaos Space Marines and the loyalist Space Marine Chapters. These three modes are:

  • Annihilation
  • Seize Ground
  • Capture & Control

Based on the titles of these PvP types I’m betting you can guess the game styles. Annihilation is likely some sort of team deathmatch style mode. What’s curious is that both Seize Ground and the Capture & Control modes sound like a zone-control based mode. One mode might have fixed spots to hold while the other might have moving zones of some sort. I’m curious to see how those matches play out!

Now, on to the more cooperative modes with the 3-Player Narrative Campaign and 3-Player Co-op mode. It appears as if the entire campaign (aka story mode) is designed to be playable with three players together. This was a similar option for the first Space Marine game so I’m assuming they are copying that idea. One player will likely play as Titus while the other two players will join the “host” and play as his squad mates. It’s alluded to in the video that only 3 Marines are being sent in — so more than enough!

Furthermore, this appears to be expanded upon with a new 3-Player mode dubbed “Operations” that we’re still light on the details for. Personally, I’m hoping we see some sort of replayable missions with a difficulty slider that gives you better rewards the hard it gets. There’s been a lot of success in the FPS/TPS space with horde modes and other squad based PvE game modes. If there was one universe that could absolutely crush it in this space the Warhammer 40,000 one is it!

Customization Options

It was also revealed that there will be 6 classes available for these modes — three more than the previous game. This is exciting news for returning fans and new players alike.

The original game featured the classic Tactical, Assault, and Devastator Marine all equipped with their corresponding loadouts. This game looks to have added a Reiver and more.

Two of the new classes mentioned are the “Bulwark with his Storm Shield” and the “Sniper and his Camo Cloak.” We get to see a few of these classes in action in the video as well.

They showcase the Reiver using their grapple launcher to traverse around the map. We also get to see the Heavy Bolter Marine in action. Along with the back-side of the sniper aiming we also get a look at the Bulwark in action slicing up some Tyranids with his Power Sword.

Once again, you’ll be able to customize you Marine based on both Chaos and Loyalist looks. We a few more shots of the Chaos Space Marine skins — but I think they might be keeping these a little closer to the chest…

In a few “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” moments in the video we also see a few other enemies showing up. I spotted a Helbrute, Carnifex, Lictor, Heldrake, and quite a few other baddies to deal with.

Between the co-op modes and the 6v6 PvP offerings I think that Space Marine 2 is looking quite promising. It’s got a slated launch date of 9-9-2024 and it’s currently up for pre-orders on their website. Personally, I’m hoping to see even more gameplay and maybe some Dev interviews about the different modes. These trailers are great for info, but a lot of the guessing could be cleared up with a more in-depth look from the developers. Here’s hoping!

September launch date? Mark your calendars…
