Kill Team has a new Quarterly Balance Update that is aiming to bring the floor up a bit on lower performing Kill Teams.

The new edition of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team is in full swing from Games Workshop. Now it’s time for them to do a few balance tweaks and check-in on the health of the game. Their goal is to make the outliers less out there. This update is hoping to make those underperforming Kill Teams a touch better than before. There’s some targeted changes so lets talk about them.

via Warhammer Community

“In general, there’s been an extremely healthy trend in the meta as more and more teams have settled into an acceptable win rate. However, there are still outliers, mainly on the low end, so this update gives most of its benefits to teams with a 45% win rate or less. Here are some of the main changes:”

Kill Team Balance Updates

Sanctifiers –  Confessor operative’s Lead the Procession rule can no longer be used in the first turning point.”

Hivestorm – Both the Vespid Stingwings and Tempestus Aquilons will get an additional operative. The Vespids can bring another Warriors while the Aquilons will have to take a Servo-Sentry.

T’au Empire Pathfinders – Marklights have been upgraded with a new table. 1 Markerlight provides the Balanced weapon rule when firing on the target. The now get a 3+ Hit when the target has 2 Markerlights.

Kasrkin – Clearance Sweep got improved and the Sergeant can now add an additional Skill at Arms.

Melee Buffs  “Several teams intended to be able to flex into melee combat – including Hernkyn Yaegirs, Death Korps, Vespid Stingwings, Scout Squad and Kasrkin – have found their melee strategies to be underwhelming, so they have have all seen an increase to melee equipment or ploy reliability to help them engage in the confines of Volkus and Gallowdark.”

For more specific reasons why these Kill Teams got updated you can check out the WarCom article. That said, there’s a TON of updates that didn’t get specific call outs. In total there’s 30 Kill Teams that got touched in this update:

If you’d like to download the new Balance Updates you can find all of them HERE. Again, not all of them got massive changes or big sweeping buffs. Regardless, it’s good to see GW taking the time to try and manage Kill Team’s meta. That’s going to be important to the long term success of this edition of Kill Team.
