Age of Sigmar: New Battlescroll Out Now – The Move To Legends Has Arrived

The latest Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Battlescroll has landed with big changes ahead. Plus the move to Legends for three armies finally hits.
There is big news for Age of Sigmar Fans today. The new Battlescroll is out now and available for download. On top of that there’s some rules changes, Battle Profile (points) updates, and finally the dreaded move to Legends for a trio of armies. Let’s go over each part.

This one is relatively short. It’s just a summary after all. Essentially this is just a setup for the new Ghyran themed rules. However, there are some key things GW calls out.
“Enhancement choices, faction terrain features, spell lores, and manifestations can now cost points, and some changes have been applied in this update. Elsewhere, points reductions have been applied across the factions. “
You can see the other changes above. The final big note here is the use of the Scourge of Ghyran Rules which were released earlier. These are legal for Matched Play in this season.

As mentioned above, there’s quite a few points shift. Frankly, there’s too many to list here. Just about every single army in the game got a points shift of some kind. If you’re got an army list you’ve been running you might want to double check your points today. It’s also worth noting that not every Battle Formation or Heroic Trait received a points cost — just some of the more popular/dominant options. This is why you really need to double check your points today! Below is an example with the Lumineth Realm-lords.
Each army now has this new purple section for their Battle Formations, Heroic Traits, Artefacts of Power, Spell/Manifestations, and Faction Terrain (where applicable). Personally, I’m curious to see if these new points for these specific options will have an impact on their usage rates or if they are so dominant that players will eat the cost and shave points elsewhere to still use them.
New Rules Updates

Once again, there’s a rules update section as well. GW also mentioned one big change:
“One of the biggest changes is the new Regimented Forces rule – if one player has more regiments than their opponent at the start of battle, then once per game that player can choose to re-roll their priority roll. This provides an extra wrinkle to the proceedings, preventing the low regiment double turn from being quite so certain.”
I find this change to be an interesting one. It’s a bit of a boost to armies that take a larger number of regiments with that once per game re-roll on their priority roll. I’m conflicted about this because the benefit of taking those low regiment lists was the boost to their priority. But I also understand why making that not as certain is a good change as it makes things less predictable. We’ll have to see how this plays out.
Aside from that Regimented Forces change, there’s a bunch of little things spread out all over the rules update document. If you’re a fan of Spearhead you certainly want to skim through that section to see if your army was impacted directly. For the Faction Packs, if you’re playing the Disciples of Tzeentch then you’ll be happy with the Kairos changes. Also the Kharadron Overlords got a tweak to their Arkanaut Frigates. For the FAQs there’s some minor clarifications that are worth skimming through again.
The Time of Legends Has Arrived
Whelp. We knew this was coming. Games Workshop warned us last year the clock was ticking.
“The Battletome supplements for Stormcast Eternals, Beasts of Chaos and Bonesplitterz now move to Legends. “
This is the one that stings the most for a lot of players. There was a MASSIVE list of Stormcast Eternals miniatures that got shoved into their Battletome Supplement. Those are now officially moved to Legends.
On top of that, the Bonesplitterz are now out of the Orruk Warclans and are all Legends. And finally, the Beast of Chaos are out, too. Strangely enough, the Beasts of Chaos could also be used in The Old World, so if you wanted to make the shift back to Rank-and-File gaming you can do that with the Beasts of Chaos.
Pour one out for the Stormcast Eternals. Their first wave of heroes have finally gotten the Legends treatment.
