Games Workshop has just revealed a new Rumor Engine. We’ve got a special looking scabbard on our hands today.

This new Rumor Engine is either a sword or a knife scabbard. GW is saying it’s a knife scabbard in the text, but I’m not 100% sure. Take a closer look for yourself.

“That’s clearly the scabbard for a knife. Look at that reinforced metal tip – that’s craftsmanship right there. Obviously made by someone who cares. Now we just need to figure out which faction cares about their weapons.”

It’s really hard to tell what this scabbard is supposed to hold. It could be a knife or a sword but we can’t see the full length. That’s why I’m not ruling out a sword. I’m also curious about the binding on the scabbard, too. At first I was thinking those were metal loops. But they could be leather or some other material. In any case, I’m still not sure who’s packing such a fancy Scabbard.

My first guess was that maybe it was a Space Marine’s combat weapon scabbard. But again, those are typically plain looking. The size looks about right though. Anyhow, based on which armies we have left to get a codex or supplement, it seems like a good fit.

But if it’s not a Space Marine, that does leave the Leagues of Votann or Drukhari for 40k. But what if it’s not for 40k at all?

We know the Kharadron Overlords are next and GW just showed off a batch of their new miniatures. And we know that the Flesh-eater Courts are also on the way due to the road map teasers from AdeptiCon. There’s loads of factions that use scabbards in AoS, too.

Let’s also remember that a lot of these Rumor Engines can be a year (or more) away from getting revealed. Who knows what this one could be by then. That’s where I’m leaving this one. So if you’ve got any theories drop us a line in the comments and let us know what you think it could be.

It’s certainly for a blade…that much we know for sure!
